Looking at Our Available Depth ATM

In the event of a suspension to Prust (which is all, but too likely right now) we will need to replace him. There are several options. You can look for an enforcer to fill his role, go with 7 D possibly playing one on O, play a borderline healthy Zucc(possibly Dubinsky), or bring up a kid from the minors.

Individual Options: (Pt/G all based on current season)
MZA (coming back from injury)
Dubinsky (likely injured)
Bickel (likely as forward)
Woywitka (doubtful over Bickel)

Erixon (6'3"; 18 NHL; 52 AHL; .63 Pt/G AHL; +5 AHL)
JAM (5'9"; 76 AHL;.84 Pt/G; +1 AHL) ---- not under contract
Wellman (6'1"; 41 NHL; 99 AHL; .82 AHL Pt/G)
Newbury (5'10";59 NHL; 65 AHL crnt yr; .98 AHL Pt/G)
McIlrath (6'5"; 2 AHL)
Kolarik (5'11"; 6 NHL; 201 AHL)
JT Miller (6'1"; 8 AHL games)
Hrivik (6'2"; 179 QMJHL)
Deveaux (6'4";31 NHl; 59 AHL w/ CTW;.69 AHL Pt/G)

Personally I'd say Bickel makes the most sense IF Zucc is still hurt. if not play Zucc w/ Kreider and Stepan and drop Callahan to the checking line. (I like Cally, but Zucc fits an offensive role better imo + having 3 play makers on a line means making lanes.
Wellman is a strong possibility because of experience. JAM is not out of the question, but I don't think he's ready yet and it might hurt his development. Idealistically Dubinsky would be healthy, but that's in a perfect world.

opinions? any likely guys that I missed?

bolded are taxi squad.

Thinking Bickel and Eminger will be in for Game 4. Prust suspension very possible.

I'd think about playing Wellman, if Zuc isn't ready. It'll probably be one Bickel/MZA/Wellman/Newbury. Maybe Kolarik, actually. Lot of options, none that are great

bolded for effect.

nobody fits prust's role better than prust. a defensive tank that can fight and play the boards. bickel probably makes the most sense, but i would not be adverse to a healthy zucc. i doubt torts wants to bring in a new guy this deep into the playoffs, but if he does wellman has the experience. newbury/kolarik are kind of scary defensively.

Wellman would be nice, but I don't know what he looks like in a bottom six slot. He is a big dude so I think he should be fine.

I would personally love to get a look at JT Miller but I don't think that is going to happen. I don't think he looked that amazing when he played with the Whale. He probably needs a bit more seasoning.

Most likely we will get Bickel at forward.

I don't know if Prust is a defensive tank. His game is all about forechecking combined with straight ahead skating.

He often times makes terrible decisions along the half wall in the defensive zone. I think the play in his own end can be the worst thing about his game at times.

We are going to miss his physicality though.

The bolded names are the ones with the taxi squad. I don't see any of the guys not with the taxi squad getting a call at this point. McIlrath and Miller are not eligible to play in the playoffs for the team because they were not on our playoff roster set back in March. Neither was JAM, who doesn't even have a contract with the Rangers yet.

It's either going to be Bickel or Newbury if neither Zuccarello or Dubinsky are ready to go by Monday.

Bickel's already been up here for the whole playoffs, and he's probably the closest thing to a direct substitution for Prust that we have. I don't see any reason to take a chance on someone else, especially if it's just for a game.

Bickel's bad, but he's physical and he tries, and that's been about all that Prust has been giving us for a while now. Did he get PK burn for us in that little stretch where he played wing?

Leave Eminger on D and shift Bickel to forward. Simple.

Does that make Deveaux a possibility in your opinion?

Bickel might be more comfortable on the right wing versus the left.

He wasn't called up with the taxi squad, so I don't see how it's possible now.

Would really like to see Wellman take some shifts over a D-man at forward.

I'll hate it if Bickel is at forward. Torts already has us basically playing one man short on D (how many minutes did Eminger get today?). With Bickel at forward, you know he'll get 3-5 minutes..basically leaving us one man short at forward.

For a team that has alot of miles on its legs these playoffs..not a good idea IMO.

If Prust gets Shannied, our depth will undoubtedly be tested... Not looking forward to this one.

Be shocked if he doesn't. Shanny is a company man.

If I remember correctly, he had 610 over about 8 shifts.

And everyone seems to be forgetting that we have John Scott.

Best case scenario is Prust doesn't get a suspension. I guess we will find out soon enough.

Possibly, I actually was a big advocate of Deveaux replacing Mitchell before the playoffs started.

The problem with Dev is that you run the risk of him acting like a hothead. A guy like Carter could get under his skin.

I would like to see a guy like Wellman but I don't know how he fits in a bottom six defensive line.

I wouldn't worry about it too much... Torts only plays 3 lines most of the time anyway.

wouldn't deveaux still need to serve his suspension? if not he would be my #1 choice.

i'm fine with bickel being slotted in as a 4th liner. i'd rather have casey wellman but i think torts trusts bick playing forward more than he trusts him on the blue line
