In a follow up, enjoy your Bronze Medal if you get one Finland. You are always awfully happy to get the Bronze, since except for last year, that is all you are capable of since you have never won anything best on best- 1998 Olympics, 2002 Olympics, 2006 Olympics, 2010 Olympics, 2004 World Cup. Canada has won three of the last 4 best on best tournaments. Russia has not won anything best on best. If they do not win gold again this year with their top players, Russia has some serious soul searching. They are much better team than Czechs or Slovaks. No excuses Russia. You should have won Gold the past two years at this tournament with your roster.
Don't call the Canada/World Cup best on best. Its a Canadian tournament played in Canada (with a few games in the United States that don't jeopardize Canada's unfair advantage), owned and operated by Hockey Canada and the NHL players association in Canada, with Canadian referees (except for games where Europeans play against each other, and don't affect Canada's unfair advantage), and played in front of Canadian fans. What if one NHL team could play all Stanley Cup games at home, assign team employees to referee the games, and make rules that apply to opposing teams. Canadian fans would raise absolute hell over it! Olympics as best on best, yes; Canada/World Cup, hell no! It is not a legitimate international tournament featuring equal competition.

In my opinion best on best tournaments don't exist. There are always players injured and such things. For example what if Giroux gets injured before the next Olympic games? Do we have to cancel the tournament because it's not best vs best anymore?
Malkin was great today, top player at the moment, no doubt. Vehanen give couple goals too easily and then final score looks quite bad.
I disagree the only "easy" goal which he could have saved was 6th goal of Russia. By all others goals hed couldn't do anything the shots were just too good.
A bunch of russian hockey fans were, in an organized manner, blocking Finnish fans from being able to get their pre-reserved tickets for the game. After the deadline until which the reservations were valid, the russians stormed to the counter to claim the tickets.
This kind of behavior is something I have no words for... Good thing I wasn't there to witness it.
Why didn't they just beat the **** out of them?
North > Helsinki

i can't recall any star players missing in the best vs best tournaments.
Giroux possibly won't make the Sochi team
Canada will be stacked... But not THAT stacked. Giroux is already one of the best players in the NHL, and he will most likely only get better. I don't see how he doesn't make Team Canada.
That's what I was thinking.
It's almost like there's only wuss's living in Helsinki
Organizers already commented it as false...Iltalehti again made a story out of their ***** and with color pen. There were rush but they made two different lines. So no need to bash Helsinkians.

I would use the very same yardstick on the WC for at least 40 years. Just one man's opinion.
Well, we had our chances for upset, but you would need a goalie producing miracles and very efficient finishing (from a country specializing in non-efficient finishing) against a non-disorganized Russia - the scoreline should have been more respectable, but by far the better team won. It's hard to see what chances will Slovakia have against this mad team, but I guess in sports anything can happen...
