They put way too much stock in this tournament for their rankings. Canada should be #1 without any arguement.

It's the 2nd largest tournament the IIHF has after the Olympics. Except it happens every year, and the Olympics once ever four years. It makes perfect sense for them to give it a lot of weight in their rankings. Besides, the results are get weighted down every year, so come 2014, the results of this year's WHC will have only 50% of the weight on the rankings as they do now.

If you really don't care about it, then don't complain about it.

It's all over the news that Canada lost against Slovakia...and cue the complaining that our "best team" wasn't there not to mention all the hair pulling about the fact we keep on losing at world juniors.

despite all the insisting that the tournament meant nothing to canada the press is committed to "let's whine about canada not owning a tournament we would never possibly win" mode.

When did I say it was easy? It's not easy when you send your D team to the WHC. Players go there because it gives them a chance to play meaningless hockey in Europe where they can enjoy themselves more than they would in the SC playoffs.

That's where the problem lies, this tournament should have zero meaning towards the Olympics. It has nothing to do with it, Canadas team at the WHC isn't even close to the quality of hockey players that we would send to the Olympics.

Sure, those teams could beat Canada, but Canada is the favourites for a reason, not 4th - 7th place. The rankings should be based of of the favourites, not what you did in a meaningless tournament.
