I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the last game that Jagr got caught with an illegal stick (twice!) that the Rangers trainers had already measured his sticks before the game and found them legal, but the refs measured them and found them illegal. The measurement tool they use is not precise or something. The same thing could have happened to Nieuwendyk.
Now Jagr has gotten the refs to measure his sticks before the game to make sure that the same thing doesn't happen again....
And by the way, even if he was using an illegal stick earlier in the season, it didn't show to make any difference using a legal one to get a hat trick against the Flyers. So IMO they should just outlaw this silly rule.
The NHL told the Sens that Vermette's stick was actualy legal. The Ref ruled it illegal because he shaves the heel, but that isn't actually illegal. Spezza had to switch sticks for the same reason!
Yeah, he got screwed. Shane Heyer called it an illegal stick, but not because the curve was illegal. The curve was fine, he called it because of the heel, like you said. In an article last week, it mentioned that the NHL did admit the mistake later.
Unfortunately, people now tend to just point out "Oh, he was disqualified from the shootout for an illegal stick," without really knowing the facts.
