The fact that Volchenkov stayed down after the Prust hit played a big role in the suspension IMO.
This is also truth. Regardless of whether Volchenkov was milking it or not, him going down and drawing attention to the play is what drew the suspension. Stralman gets back up and keeps playing, no one thinks twice about the play
Yeah, I didn't recall seeing this during the game but it looks like based off the replay that Zubrus came in and got his elbow up right into Stralman's face. The thing with both the Prust and Zubrus elbows is that neither time was the elbow tucked but their arms went out of the way to make contact. The fact that Volchenkov stayed down after the Prust hit played a big role in the suspension IMO.
I hate embellishing in most situations, but embellishing a head hit is okay in my book. If you get hit high laying on the ground is the smart thing to do as so long as you're not in the defensive zone. you can either draw a penalty, get a whistle, or in this case get a suspension. high hits are always a little bit more dangerous than anything else on the ice. if a guy's going to do it you have to teach him that he can't. sadly we're not in the day and age where you're allowed to respond to a dirty hit by dropping the gloves-- you end up with an instigator... so embellishing a dangerous hit is the next best thing..
don't get me wrong, diving on trips/hooks/slashes to the stick/holds drive me nuts, but a head hit is dangerous and if guys take a penalty on it then hopefully they'll be more careful next time.
