I guess it's easier to make up your opposition's arguments than actually argue against the points they make.

Have you considered a career in politics?

Did you forget that Nash asked for a trade. They don't have much leverage.

If the Blue Jackets trade Nash it will be for young high ceiling talent as it would be a rebuild. If you are rebuilding Marleau is not the piece you want coming back,

Nash signed a contract with the Blue Jackets, they don't in any way need to trade him. If he wants to pull a Heatley that's a different situation altogether but nothing so far indicates he would do that.

The Jackets have lots of leverage.

This is the biggest misconception on these boards.... Yes Nash requested a trade, and... The Columbus Blue Jackets "own" his rights for 7 more years, he doesn't control the trigger.

It was more of a you can trade me to speed up the rebuild then a I want to be traded. Nash will stay with the Blues Jackets if the right deal is not out there. He won't pout and complain and sit until he is traded. It wasn't so much or a demand as him mentioning he wouldn't mind to be traded.

Stop quoting that guy, you are feeding the troll.

Rick Nash is a very good player but is not what the Sharks need skill-set or salary wise. Wrong direction.

This would be accurate. Those of us who follow CBJ and know the type of person Nash is outside of the business of hockey, know that he will perform no matter what sweater he is wearing in 13'.

I forget where I read this, but some coach he worked in the past (I think goalie coach?) is still there.

I don't think SJ and CBJ are a match in terms of available assets going back to Columbus. There's not a team in the NHL that wouldn't love to have Nash, its all about what they have to give up.

Really more about what they are willing to give up.

If we offered Couture, Nash would be a Shark already, but we are not willing to make that deal because it doesn't make the Sharks a better team now or in the future.

It's fine and dandy to say "he'll stay in Columbus" and maybe you are right, but in a trade discussion the point is IF he is traded, what will the return be. Generally, no matter the situation, once the situation has reached the 'player asked for a trade and we announced it publicly' phase, there is no going back.

Realistically you are not going to get a player that is near Nash's talent/production but younger and cheaper because why would a team do that? You might get high picks, high talent prospects, veteran players, that sort of thing, but it's going to be quality for quantity to some degree. How much quality you get in that quantity is the real question.

Also, the teams that MIGHT be willing to trade you quality young players because they have an excess (and cap space) are the ones not on Nash's list.

It's a crappy situation. I think CBJ will get a package of players that will be seen as 'a good return' but I doubt we see any big name NHLers in there.

Marleau, Pavelski and a 1st is still what I think happens.

Marleau puts up equivalent numbers to Nash, and is better defensively, and signed for less (and will re-sign guaranteed). Plus we add Pavelski who also puts up equivalent numbers, is better defensively, and signed for half what Nash is, and a 1st?

That is totally unrealistic. I might trade that package for Malkin, but not Nash.

"Might" trade Marleau Pavelski and a late 1st for Malkin?

Do you have any understanding at all of trade value in the NHL?

The problem is San Jose has depleted their store of "++" over the last few years and there's not much left of interest for a big piece like Nash.

How can you be so sure that this will be the last Rick Nash Thread?

The Leafs, in other words. Which wouldn't surprise me.
