Since there are a lot of Swedes here, I wonder if anyone has seen some of these kids play and what kind of upside they might have? Some of these are obviously real longshots but stood out for one reason or another. The rankings are from Central Scouting's final ranking.
Calle Andersson (D) - Euro #15, big, right-handed shot, good numbers in SuperElit and played at the U18 games. Mikael Vikstrand (D) - Euro #23, 6'2, full season in Allsvenskan. Marcus Bohman (D) - Euro #88 but 12 games in SEL this year. Max Görtz (RW) - Overager, not ranked, but big right-handed winger with 5 points in 18 SEL-games this year.
Yeah, he's very interesting. He got better as the season went on aswell, was one of Sweden's best players in the last U19 tournament playing alongside very good players like Åberg, Brodin, Klefbom. Looks to become a top6 forward on next year's WJC squad. The question is if some team already has him very high on their draft list.
Wouldn't be against entertaining the idea of Gusev either, but with a later pick. He's very much on the short side but his talent is undeniable. This is his last draft year though right? Not sure what the chances of him going undrafted are.

Not one mention of Jarrod Maidens? He's a pure heart and soul with size and top 6 potential. Compare him to Toews or a bigger (more physical) Zach Parise. He can skate, he can fight, and he says he channels his game after Iginla... The type of players Detroit is lacking.

Would love for Detroit to go after a sliding Russian. I know the big three probably won't be there by the middle second but it would be interesting to start taking a couple of guys from there. We know Marchenko wants to come over, but the Wings could really scare the life out of some teams if they took two Russians this year and made it look like they were going to target Russia again.
Marcus McIvor and/or Dylan Blujus. McIvor is a strong defender and a good skater. Blujus is a big lanky pointman with a good shot, if he fills out he could be a steal. They were a really good pairing on one of the best defensive teams in the OHL. Either projects in the middle rounds.

I think Samuelsson would make a beautiful RW to Calle Jarnkrok and Gus as a power forward. If we could trade up a little for him, I'd be very happy. Colberg is another player I'd like to trade up and get. Oh well.

The others weren't that impressive when they were drafted, they developed and got very good, hence, outside the top 10 you hardly ever find a very good at the time of the draft, this is a weak draft with very little high end talent, basically only yakupov is very good at the moment.

Seems to be an awful lot of fawning over numbers 2-5, if Yakupov is the only very good one.

Not sure, from what I seen he was listed as American. NHL.com has his POB as Scottsdale, AZ..... but now I see other sites listing his POB as Leksand, SWE. Weird, must have been born on an airplane.

Alright Karlsson was 15th overall, at the time I didn't think he was really good... We're talking really good at the time they are drafted... I didn't follow the draft that closely in 2005 or 2006, I know Kopitar played in sweden during the lockout but he wasn't all WOW.
Yeah and Paul Stastny is Czechoslovakian, too? Philip and Henrik are American, along with Brett Hull, Paul Stastny, and Zach Parise who are NOT Canadian. Guess that is why he played for team USA at the U17&U18.

The difference was one of the Samuelsson boys did want to play for Sweden and I think it was this one. He did go over there to play pro for a little bit, but he needed to stay for four years or something strange to even become eligible. I do know the story is complicated for some reason it isn't a simple black and white decision.
