Just assuming this was the end of the season, how would you see things unfold given the current match-ups? Theres some interesting ones...another Dallas-Edmonton series, Ottawa-Montreal..an all-Canadian match, the battle of New York state. Thoughts on this?
West:
Detroit vs. Vancouver
Dallas vs. Edmonton
Calgary vs. Colorado
Nashville vs. Anaheim

East:
Ottawa vs. Montreal
Carolina vs. New Jersey
Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay
Buffalo vs. New York Rags

Detroit, Dallas, Calgary, and Ottawa are all winners here.

Safe to say it should be a lot different come playoff time.

Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay
Buffalo vs. New York Rags
I would guess:
Detroit
Dallas
Calgary
Anaheim

Montreal!!!!
Carolina
Philadelphia
Rangers

By the time playoffs come around, the cold teams might get hot again - so it can change.

The season DOESN'T end today, and that's bad news for a few teams in the West.

Buffalo and NY would both lose, even if they player each other.

I kid, I kid.... I think the Rangers are playing better now, although they're losing games (in SOs mostly)... Buffalo's kinda hit a wall... The defense has not looked good since the Olympics, Miller is looking mortal again, and they're missing Hecht and Connolly more than one would imagine.

I feel sorry for those fighting for a playoff spot in the west.....all they have to look forward to is a matchup against powerhouses Dallas and Detroit. The 6th seed faces a weaker Flames team (Or Avs, if they catch them).

Sure, upsets do happen, but I just don't see that happening this season. There will be no cinderalla run.

Vancouver - they honestly scare me as a playoff team. I hope the Canucks don't make the playoffs.
Dallas - ah the classics
Colorado - they scare me as a team
Nashville - the favourites IMO

Montreal - Ottawa has injuries right now
Carolina - they just seem to have "it"
Philly - see Carolina
Rags - wild stab

IMO, pointless thread, because we have no clue what the actual matchups would be. But for the sake of fun:

West
Detroit vs. Vancouver = Vancouver in 6
Dallas vs. Edmonton = Dallas in 7
Calgary vs. Colorado = Calgary in 7
Nashville vs. Anaheim = Nashville in 6

East:
Ottawa vs. Montreal = Ottawa in 5
Carolina vs. New Jersey = New Jersey in 6
Philadelphia vs. Tampa Bay = Philadelphia in 5
Buffalo vs. New York Rangers = New York in 7

Seriously for all you guys predicting NJ to win... if the season ended today Carolina would sweep us. NJ has some problems to iron out (Elias needs to get on track, Matvichuk needs to come back, Marty needs to get out of his funk) before playoff time comes.

Just because we suck against Dallas, we have less wins than the Canucks (the game in hand doesn't count ) and I think that would put the Oilers in 8th to face Detroit instead.

West:
Detroit vs. Edmonton=Detroit in 6 (Wings offense too overpowering)
Dallas vs. Vancouver=Dallas in 5 (Canucks can't hang with defensive stalwart teams, never have and never will)
Calgary vs. Colorado=Calgary in 7 (Cgy. useless if Kipper is hurt/playing badly but in the end the Flames will overcome their inferiority on O, and Theodore is the difference
Nashville vs. Anaheim=Anaheim in 7 (my upset pick, should be a fun, fast-skating series to watch if it ever occurs)

East:
Ottawa vs. Montreal=Ottawa in 6 (sorry fellow Hab fans but they're no Bruins but we play the Sens too well to get swept)
Carolina vs. New Jersey=Carolina in 5 (Canes getting no love in this thread. Come on, Devils would need miraculous play from Brodeur to pull it out)
Philadelphia vs. Tampa=Philly in 5 (Tampa's goaltending is even more tenuous than the annual goalie-go-round in Philly)
Buffalo vs. New York=Buffalo in 7 (should be a hard fought series between two teams with excellent goaltending and exciting offensive gameplans, this ain't your older brother's lunch pail Sabres or the old millionaire's club Rangers who paid no attention to their own zone)

There are still a lot of players left from the Dallas-Edmonton playoff series' on the Oilers. If they meet Dallas in the playoffs again, they're going to want to exorcise some demons.

EDM VS DAL ---- EDM in 4

Modano gets a trip to the ER in game 1 c/o Ethan Moreau
