Easy choice to make, especially considering we are now giving our 3rd in 2013 to Minnesota. I'd rather have a 2 & 3 this year than only a 2 next year if we waited until next year to give up the 1st.

lol, instead of 210 draft picks there'll be 209, it's not any more complicated than that. People don't
seem to get what forefiting a pick means.

I do wonder how many teams have ever had a top four pick one year and a bottom four pick the next haha.

I didn't get what forfeiting a pick meant, but I got it now!

The highest the pick would be is the 28th? Lowest means we won the cup. I say Lou will give up our first and that will be the end of that.

Actually San Jose is getting an extra supplemental draft pick for not signing one of their prospects - a mid second rounder I believe - so 210 players will still be drafted.

Yup, the San Jose is getting the 55th pick. They traded Christian Ehrhoff to Vancouver for prospect Patrick White who was the 25th overall pick in 2007. Don't think the Sharks ever intended to sign him and instead viewed him as a compensatory pick at some point. White graduated last year and San Jose "lost" his rights in July.

Despite the likelihood of no first round pick, I'm still planning on attending the Draft again. When it comes our turn to pick, I can try to ham it up for cameras.....put on sunglasses and have a sign that says "I AIN'T EVEN MAD"

NHL Draft: What do the Devils need in the Draft, without a #1 (Kovalchuk penalty)?

With the Devils obviously forfeiting this year's #1 pick as part as the Kovalchuk penalty, what do you think they will try and draft in rounds 2-7? They seem to be set on D, what about Goalie, Center and Wings?

Who should they target?

We could use a couple of forward prospects regardless of whether or not we forfeit the pick or not

It's obvious the Devils will be forfeiting their #1 pick this year.

I just hope the Devils win the Stanley Cup and preferably with Kovalchuk having a monster series so Lamoriello can stuff it down Bettman's throat.

EDIT: I'd love to listen to that phone call.

Bettman: Hello
Lou: Hi Gary, this is Lou Lamoriello
Bettman: Hi Lou, how can I help you?
Lou: I'd just like you to know that you can take the Devils 2012 #1 draft pick and cram it up your azz
Bettman: Okay, duly noted

We need a new young Goaltender for Brodeur to take under his wing. That's the backbone of the team right there.

We'll use this draft to load up on forwards, I think. Some good ones should drop into the second round. Too bad we gave up the Washington second and not our own, it would have been much higher.

I think Wedge will be that guy, we don't need another goalie prospect unless he's the obvious BPA.

Between Frazee, Kinkaid, Wedgewood (my personal fave), Clermont, and now Pilemeier as well, I don't think that's an area the Devils need to focus on.

I understand completely why anyone would think so, I just don't think Lou gives out two-year contracts for no reason. He knew there was gonna be a logjam, and to me that means someone is getting their shot in the NHL next year. Frazee had better numbers than Kinkaid this past year, and I think Lou's ready to test if Frazee is worth holding on to or not next season.

We know Lou values seniority. If you do the time, you deserve a chance. Just seems like a Lou move to me.

logjammin'? One of Jackie's greats. He drew a lot of water in his day - may he rest in peace.

I really don't want Brodeur to take anyone under his wing.

His style is too unique. Anything he teaches a young goaltender is going to result in failure more often than not.

I don't want him teaching anyone his style, but I do want Wedge (who likes handling the puck and is decent at it) learning how to handle the puck from the master.

As soon as Marty retires, they'll take the trapezoid out. And then Wedge will show up in NJ and make them regret that. Let's troll the hell out of the NHL.

Marty can`t teach style (except for the puckhandling skills), but what he can teach is dedication and character.

Aka "What it takes to be a pro" Hockey 101 with a legend of the sport.

That`s a valuable experience if you ask me.

Gotta get my man Prokhorkin somehow.

1st round - forfeited
2nd round (58-61) - you know the answer, I pray to God every week.
3rd round (88-91) - center/winger (in that order)
4th round (96) - winger/versatile center
5th round (135) - goaltender
5th round (148-151) - versatile center/winger
6th round (178-181) - defenseman

Obviously they have to take the BPA (hello you BS term, we meet again), but you get what I`m saying.

Btw. Minny has only 9 days to sign Granlund to an ELC. Imagine what chaos it would cause if he re-entered the draft. I don`t see it happening though.

I think you're otherwise putting him on an untouchable pedestal saying that his style is unteachable to young goaltenders. I'm sure he can take one or any of these young prospects and mold them. And let's not assume that that will be in fact what he would do.. maybe he would just guide these players to find their own styles or use their own strengths? And who better to bestowe professional goatlending knowledge and playoff experience than Brodeur?

It was my impression that he intends to stay on with the organization past his professional career, not sure to what capacity yet though?
