I saw lots of good players on Team Russia who aren't in the NHL.
A team with some cap room, a need for a bunch of players and a good Russian scout could really improve themselves quite easily,

You're kidding yourself if you think it would be 'easy' to get a bunch of Russian players.
I honestly think Nikulin is a top-10/15 D in the game right now, he's that good. With aging Gonchar and injury prone Markov he's probably Russia's best. It's just like Kenny Jonsson playing in Sweden a lot of his career, despite being the second best Swedish D.
It's time to build a new Russian 5.
Sign Semin and Nikulin and also bring Grigorenko back. He would be nice bullish corner worker to play with Dats and Semin. Perfect roling in that line. Bring Marchenko over to play with Nikulin and you have nice left-right pairing to complete the unit.
If it was just about money and roster spaces I think they would already be over here.
Well, lots of guys go over there because they couldn't find decent offers over here. And then guys over there and discover that the number on the contract and the the number on their paycheck isn't always the same
Yikes. I think a lot of Tatar fans are hoping for a little more lavish comparisons.
Eh. Sykora has had himself quite a decorated NHL career (1000+ games played, over 300 goals, over 700 points, etc. etc.), so it's not like we're about some borderline ECHL scrub here. If Tatar accomplishes even half of that much, I'd call it a win. Obviously we can always hope for more, but let's not get too ahead of ourselves here.
Prucha, though, on the other hand... yeesh. I'll pass on that one.
I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but how people can still think Hudler should be re-signed with Tatar and Nyquist looking so good is beyond me. I think both players will be better players than Huds after 1 full year in the NHL.

I think you are underselling some of Hudler's accomplishments. To date they have done nothing more impressive than Hudler. I think Nyquist could be better and both won't be as frustrating to watch from a skating standpoint. But Hudler is a lot better than a lot of people around here give him credit for. Keep in mind he bagged 96 points when he was in the AHL and actually has an established pro resume in the NHL and KHL.
I don't disagree with moving forward and getting younger, but that has mostly to do with cost. Jiri Hudler will make quite a bit more next season, however to expect them to eclipse him right away next year is actually a pretty tall order. If Nyquist does and I really hope so, he will probably win the Calder rather easily especially with the weak draft year.

i didn't want to be excessive by comparing him to palffy or brian propp, etc.
but there is a real chance tatar becomes a marginal player as prucha did. prucha scored 30g in his rookie season (partly b/c he played with jagr in a higher scoring season).
i remember early in '06, prucha was one of the leading scorers, and a NYR fan said he would not trade prucha for crosby.
sykora was a solid top 6 W. another possible comparison is richard zednik.

agree
hudler's hockey sense and vision seem to be superior to nyquist's and tatar's. nyquist's seem to be superior to tatar's. tatar seems to be more a goalscorer than nyquist.
nyquist's main problem, imo, is that he is too weak physically.

I don't think Hudler has better vision, but he doesn't hold the puck as long either, probably because of his skating limitations. Nyquist will learn to let the puck work for him more, it isn't always great to be lugging. But watching him pass on his backhand, control the puck and his awareness of where players are, I don't see those as minuses when comparing the two. I just think Hudler was farther along as a scorer right now, so yes his hockey sense was initially better, but I think Nyquist can catch those areas and has some better physical aspects to eventually surpass him, however those that believe it has already happened are mistaken.
I doubt Miller's fantastic season sees him demoted and Bert isn't going anywhere people, they can't do anything with him he signed that contract after 35+, so unless that comes out in the next CBA, put him in your lineup for two years, because I don't think he will except a trade out of town either, just threaten retirement and nobody want 2 million of dead weight.
