Funny thing is that a few years eariler Mikka Kiprusoff played two seasons in the same swedish club before leaving for one season in Finland before he went to North America, don't think everyone knows about that.
Thomas was in Finland already in 97-98 and 98-99 in HIFK. He won SM-Liiga championship and the best goalie award in 98

Only worth mentioning since his anme was in the write up about Svedberg. Modig, the other goalie who signed with a NHL team, signed with the Penguins. He came over and started in Wheeling of the ECHL. He got hurt and went home to recover. Apparently he reinjured himself and is considering retirement.

Imo, there's been some questionable goalie signings from the SEL as of late. It's a no-risk move of course, but still. The goalies I have in mind are Modig and Wesslau. Svedberg would be the third.

I simply don't see the rush for someone who has only had one and a half good years to take the next step already. Good, not great. He could've been one of the best SEL goalies next year and challenge for a spot on the National team. Experience of that sort he will not get in the AHL. He's heading for a long and bumpy road.
