Do you really think that guys like Marleau, Pavelski, Couture, Havlat, Boyle & Vlasic played less physically because the PK sucked? No, it was guys like Clowe & Murray that would likely play less physically because of a crap PK.
Physicality isn't about laying the big hits or dropping the gloves. It's about playing the body along the boards, finishing checks and being aggressive with the stick play.
I will offer two views on Kadri's value:
Most Leaf Fans: top 10 pick
Most Non-Leaf Fans: diddly squat
Actual value is somewhere in between. Since he was drafted a few years ago and still hasn't made the NHL his value is obviously not going to be a top 10 pick, it's arguable not even a first round pick at all anymore. His value is fairly subjective and will change from person to person, personally I would probably put him in the late first early second range myself. If he can crack the leafs line up (or another teams if he gets traded) next season I think his value would probably rise a little to 15-25 first round range, maybe higher if he completely tears it up which is unlikely. Won't find many/any players as skilled as him late in the first round, it's just that he is small (although he plays on the edge usually) and his defensive play still needs attention.
This x100000. Kadri right now will still net you a first round pick. I doubt a top 10 just because ppl typically expect forwards taken this high to be playing in the league by now. D men and Goalies are the exceptions to that rule, but are not fully exempt.
Kadri wont get anyone Clowe. It'll take Kadri +. Clowe is a beast and a player that plays more physical than Kadri ever will. He's bigger and nastier. Kadri is slicker and a bit more dirty than physical.
The question comes down to whether ppl will take Clowe's nastiness + 45-50 pt scoring versus Kadri's cheaky (dont wanna say dirty and have ppl down my throats) + potentially 60pt player. I'd say it would have to be Kadri +
I dont see why Kadri takes this much heat IMO. Look at Turris. The guy went 3rd overall and still hasnt played a full NHL season. He was on pace for 60pts last year with the SENS and is still feather lite. I would still say that Turris is a great trade for the SENS and with how young he is he'll only get better. TML fans need to relax a little. Why is it that either Kadri is the saviour or he is trash? Whats wrong with a 60 pt player?
Burns is just too valuable. We have no one in the system to replace him, he's signed long term to a good deal and he's still very young. There is just no way to trade him and come out ahead.
We could however trade you Boyle (if he doesn't put you guys on his list of 8 teams), but I realize the difference. Boyle would make an immediate and huge impact though, but he's obviously a lot older.
