Team USA roster predictions in Sochi
Parise Stastny Kane
Ryan Pavelski Callahan
Brown Kesler Kessel
Malone Backes Okposo/Oshie

Suter E. Johnson
Orpik J. Johnson
Yandle MdDonagh
Whitney, Martin, Carlson, Gleason, Komisarek, Byfuglien
lots of choices at D

What do you think the roster should look like? Who should be moved around? And who should be there that isn't and who shouldn't be there?

Parise-Kesler-Kane
Ryan-Stastny-Kessell
Brown-Backes-Pominville
Callahan-Pavelski-Oshie
Pacioretty
E. Johnson-Suter
Yandle-McDonagh
Carlson-Fowler
J. Johnson/Shattenkirk/Bogosian...so many choices
Quick
Miller
Howard
Really it is impossible to pick 2 years from now. Orpik might be too slow, especially for big ice. Fowler might become an elite defenseman. Pacioretty might be a consistent 70+ player. Stastny might continue to struggle. Stepan or Kreider could become stars. But this is my stab anyway. As intriguing as a Callahan/Backes/Brown line is, Pominville needs to be at least on the 3rd line. Kessel and Kane are just above him as RWers IMO. They might choose to go more defensive though but who knows.

Well, I posted my roster, but I have some questions about the OP's. Do you really think Thomas can beat out Quick, Schneider, and Miller at nearly 40? I also don't see Malone getting another sniff. If Orpik makes it, I think he's just an extra. No way he's a top-four American defenseman in 2014. Langenbrunner probably won't be playing.

i had thomas as the #3 goalie with quick as the 1
langenbrunner was one of the reserves, and i don't think he has much of a shot
malone and orpik are still good players, but i see what you mean. especially with the bigger ice

Suter, Byfuglien, Yandle, McDonagh, Shattenkirk, Fowler, Bogosian, E. Johnson, J. Johnson, Carlson, and Faulk will all be better than Orpik by then, in my opinion.

No on Byfuglien unless he's playing forward.

Not bad at all. However, I'd put Backes on the second or third line. Maybe put him with Brown and Cally to shut people down.

IU, do you mean you are not convinced NHL players will play?

You dummies, Kane will be the #1 C by then.
Meh, I hate the way Olympic Hockey uses 4 on 4 for overtime, ruins it for me.

Putting Fowler in there makes the defense soft as hell.

So much can happen in 18 months that I found it a little pointless to suggest or argue lineups.

yeah i guess. there are stilll a good amount of players who will be there for sure or very likely be there, barring injury.
kane, parise, pavelski, stastny, suter, j. johnson, e. johnson, quick, miller, ryan, kesler, kessel, brown, callahan, backes
don't see the big deal with making some predictions. 18 months isn't that far off
maybe move the thread to the international boards?

I like Buff as a 4th line winger who plays in front of the net on the PP.

Yeah, especially since Luongo may be the starter for Canada.

Not really a USA hockey fan, but I'll take a shot:
Parise - Stastny - Kessel
Ryan - Kesler - Kane
Brown - Backes - Pavelski
Pacioretty - Stepan - Callahan
James VanRiemsdyk
HM: Jason Pominville, TJ Oshie, Blake Wheeler, Erik Cole
J. Johnson - Suter
Yandle - McDonagh
E. Johnson - Shattenkirk
Byfuglien
HM: Alex Goligoski, Cam Fowler, John Carlson, Brooks Orpik
Jonathan Quick
Ryan Miller
Jimmy Howard
HM: Tim Thomas (if he's still playing), Cory Schneider
