HC Kometa Brno

Hey Guys! Never posted on this section of the forums before but i am in the need of some answers! Well this past fall i lived in Stockholm and had the pleasure of watching Djurgarden games during my stay.

Well this time around, i will be living in Brno! I was wondering if anyone could give me a guide on HC Kometa Brno....

Such as...ticket prices, seat suggestions, do/don'ts in the arena, any warnings etc.

Basically, anything you have to say about HC Kometa Brno since i will be living there for 4 months!

Thanks!

Kometa is second most successful ice hockey club in the Czech Republic with 11 Czechoslovak league titles, but last one is from 1966. After that it went downhill and in 1996 the team was relegated and returned back to Extraliga in 2009. Right now Brno is in the middle of hockey feaver. Kometa reached 2012 Extraliga play-off final. Home games will be 13th/14th April (19th April if needed). Almost all games are sold out and fans camp in front of ticket offices to get some tickets. Ticket prices for final are officially 520-700 CZK (27,50-37 USD), I heard prices on black market are up to 160 USD.
New season will start in September, ticket prices for this one were 7-14 USD

Edit: also if you like junior hockey, part of IIHF U18 WC (including semifinal and final games) will be played in Brno.

Edit 2: and even more, last tournament of Euro Hockey Tour will be played in Brno. It is tournament between Czech, Russia, Finland and Sweden. Those teams usualy have close to final WC rooster there, so there can be some good players that haven't reached NHL playoffs.

Well, I have more time now, so here's some aditional info:
games are played in KAJOT arena (but if you ask for directions it's better to use its old name "Rondo").

Virtual tour: http://prsreality.cz/kometa_brno/

How to get there:
depends where you will live, but since parking options are limited, it's better to use bus or tram. Bus nr. 44, 84, tram nr. 8, station Křídlovická

More about Kometa - it was founded in 1953. The majority of players were transferred from 2 hockey clubs in Brno - TJ Spartak Brno Zbrojovka and TJ Spartak GZ Královo Pole After that it went on winning streak, getting 11 Czechoslovak league titles (1955, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966), 3 European cups (1966, 1967, 1968) and Spengler cup (1955).

This year it finished regular season at 8th position, but in play-off it won 3-0 against Jagr's Kladno, than won 4-2 against Sparta Prague (1st after regular season) and 4-1 against Plzeň (2nd after regular). Now it's tied in final 1-1 with Pardubice.

Club colors are blue and white.

Definitely forgot many things, so if you want to know something more, just ask and I'll do my best.

Great thanks for the information! Ill be living there this August so still a ways away.

So the prices are generally 25-60 USD?

Any more information about arena experience would be nice like seating suggestion. For example sitting farther up rather than closer to the glass was suggested when i saw a few games for the Swedish League.

Thanks again!

Those were prices for play-offs. If you come in August, you'll be here for pre-season games and start of new season, prices of ticket will be definitely much lower (as I posted above, regular season was 7-14 USD, may go up a bit after play-off final this year).

I hope you will enjoy it here

Anyway - it depends what you really want - if you want to enjoy the atmosphere with the cheering fans, then you should buy tickets to section F or E. If you want to see hockey and enjoy the game, then A, B, C or D. Best view is around 19-20 row and 1-6 seats so anywhere near by this you are safe.

Does Brno plan to build a new (bigger) arena anytime in the future? I think it would a good idea, because interest in hockey is very good and I'd say it will even grow after this season.

There were some rumours a few years ago that a new multifuntion arena will be in Brno-Bohunice as a part of a College Campus. I don't remember more but I'll try to find some article

EDIT: Here we go
http://brno.idnes.cz/hala-pro-brno-m...rno-zpravy_bor

EDIT2: 10.000 capacity is desperately not enough in my opinion. 14.000 would be ideal I'd say.

Don't think they'll build anything. Guess it'll end as "Lužánky" version 2 - before every local elections, all political parties will come with plan how to build it and when elections are over, nothing will happen for another 4 years.

Official jerseys in Czech extraliga are usually kinda ugly and full of sponsors. A few months ago, they was selling a retro jersey which was beautiful. I would wait for late summer or autumn if they are going to sell them again

It was this European Trophy retro jerseys

That video is great. What a pleasure to see so many people standing and watching hockey, and for so long too!

The city center here reminds me so much of Poland when I used to go there as a kid.

Call me crazy but I like the jerseys that have many sponsor logos, reminds me a lot of European soccer teams which I have a soft spot for.

One more question. Does anyone know if there are adult leagues in Brno. I am 21 and studying at Masaryk so i was looking for a fun league to play in during my stay. Nothing serious but competitive at the same time.

Thanks.

Every year there's game between Masaryk university and VUT (two main universities in Brno).
Adult leagues - I may be wrong, but don't think there are any, lack of artificial ice would make it hard to organize.

There are at least 3 amateur leagues in Brno, but it's hard to get in, because a lot of former players are actually playing there.

If you are looking for regular ice to play every week (not league, but two teams), then feel free to send me a PM.

Great thanks! How much gear is necessary? When i lived in Sweden it was a real pain in the butt to carry my stuff to and from the airport.

Would these below be enough or do i need full gear?

Skates
Stick(ill buy a cheap wooden one there )
helmet
gloves
knee pads
