Colin Long is closer to Azevedo. Not a great skater or a great motor. Shinnimin is, I think, just an average skater, but he makes up for it with a lot of energy and grit. I think he could turn into something like what Brule is now: a valuable bottom six roleplayer who can add 30 or so points to the lineup.

someone want to explain to me how Visentin is not the OHL goalie of the year? Set league record for shutouts and led the league in save percentage and GAA. When did the numbers stop counting?

Another goalie set an OHL record for wins in a season because Vis was too busy winning a medal at the WJCs.

Ridiculous.

Oh well, Niagara won the first game of their series against Ottawa 2-1 in OT. I'd rather Mark get more experience with a deeper Memorial Cup run than a title he already won last year

Shorthanded to boot.

A bounce back from a rough game in his last start.

Hey Phoenix folks.
Figured I would poke my head in here as a Brampton season ticket holder who watches Lane play all the time.

Not sure if you have talked about him much, I wasnt about to read through 27 pages.

Anyway, based on what I've seen I would think Lane will come back for one more year in Brampton at least. There are certain games when Lane shows up he easily becomes the best player on the ice, problem is he only does that about 10 games a season.

I remember after his rookie year in 09-10 I had such high hopes for him, he had looked awesome and earned being a 2nd round pick, but in the 2 years since its been somewhat disapointing. Mainly because every now and then Lane has an amazing game and we all have to say "where the heck did that come from?" For example his hat trick in the playoffs this year vs Sudbury.

He should be an OA for Brampton next year (I really cant seeing him go farther than AHL camp unless he suddenly becomes a monster over the summer).

He should be one of our go to guys next year, which will probably be his last shot to show the Yotes he is worth an entry level deal.

Good luck in the playoffs guys, glad to see you guys beat Chicago.

Decision's gotta be made this summer or Phoenix loses his rights. Probably fairly long odds that he'll be signed.

Oh is it this summer?
Ok yeah I cant see him getting signed then, unless Phoenix doesnt want to admit a 2nd round pick isnt even worth an entry contract.

Oh well you still have 2 Brampton alumni on the Yotes I can cheer for lol

And then there was one. Visentin's IceDogs eliminated in the OHL final leaving only Brandon Gormley from the Coyotes stable competing for the Memorial Cup.

Vis just got bounced from the OHL playoffs after losing games 2 through 5 of the finals.

Is he old enough to play in Portland next year? And if so would that benefit him? Guaranteed starts in junior would be hard to pass on.

Edit: just checked and he turns 20 in August so he's eligible for both OHL and AHL.

Early in the 2nd period and Gormley with 1G 1A so far (assist was a Gormley shot that was redirected for a goal) in the Memorial Cup.

He really needs to on the AHL/NHL yo yo next year so he can get some experience, and then he should be a really valuable player in 2014.

I honestly think he's 50/50 to make the team next season.

We have some decisions to make with some of our lesser touted D. Schlemko for one is going to have to be moved this summer.

Gormley with another goal - probably the slowest slapshot I've ever seen hit the net

I agree we may need to move a D-man, but Schlemko is at such a great price that I like him as a 7th D.

Good read. Updates on Gormley and several other Coyotes prospects:

Brandon Gormley benefitting from extended post-season with Shawinigan

That's kind of a leading question as there are legitimately about 5-10 legitimate 1st line forward prospects in the entire NHL.

But to answer your question the short answer is we are not one of those teams who have a prospect who forecasts as a legitimate impact player. Our current group of forward prospects project out as 3rd liners. Chris Brown is likely our top forward prospect and he projects as a physical third liner with second line upside. Other prospects like Miele and Shinimin have the offensive upside of second line centers but are going to have to develop their two way game to get a crack at the NHL. Their development is hardly a certainty. They will be given opportunity though with this franchise considering the holes that will be opening up in a season or two. That is why they signed with us.

Thank you. Considering that there are 90 slots for 1st line players in the NHL I was hoping that we had at least one prospect. My hope is that Miele exceeds expectations. Has he learned to take a face off yet?

sure their are 90 slots but a lot of those are filled by guys who are complimentary players and whose skill set would not qualify them as first line players per se. Burrows in Vancouver for example is a complimentary player on the first line with the Sedins but he himself would not be viewed as a legitimate first liner.
