On Edge, you are spot on with your assessment and remembrance of Gordie Lane. No way does he belong on this list!

Someone is cranky. Three angry posts is a row, I love it. We are all Islanders.

I never really liked Martinek. Me and my dad thought he was a liability every game for at least one bone headed mive that led to a goal for the other team.

But for worst Islander, i'd definitley say Chara. I mean look, the guy was a complete bum, thank god Milbury saved us all from years of defensive meltdowns and brought in a shiny new Yashin!

:p

Idk if he's the worst, but I hated Andy Hilbert.

From what I remember without looking at stats the past few years

Nino
DP after 2008, we all know the injuries but when he did play he was the worst goalie in the league
Mottau
Rolston
Reasnor
Tambellini
Gervais
Thompson
Gillies/Fritz/Rechlitz - 3 of the worst players to ever lace them up in across all 30 teams
Thompson
Witt in his last season

Wow! who actually stunk? Well, Volek was pretty horrible after his rookie year. Jon Sim is deserving of consideration. We had 10 billion players play for us in the mid 90's.

With that said, and considering what he was supposed to be, Ron Hextall, though a really good goalie in his day, was HORRIBLE for us. Dave Chyzowski if you want to go with the overhyped draft bust. Vladamir Malkhov, save for his first year, was ultimately pretty horrible.

Bruno Gervais, of course.

This just might be one of the hardest questions ever asked. Kvasha, naturally.

,,, TOO MANY TO LIST!

Scissons only played two games. He was useless in both, but hardly did anything to get him on this list.

I guess I'm nicer than you, and I give Nino hell. I left him off my list out of the kindness of my heart.

You know its really sad that these are all legitimate answers, and have all played on the team within the past few years.

Good defensive guy who Arbour really appreciated on cup winning teams which is good enough for me. Four time cup winner and not in finals against the Oilers for the 5th cup run - and they missed him tremendously in that series.
I agree with you. Gordie Lane elevated his game come playoff time, an attribute he shares with other guys from the dynasty teams. He only played a few playoff games during the 4th cup run, I think his physical playing style caught up with him.

Definitely Thomas Pock. I'll never forget one game, the other team dumps the puck in deep and goes for a change. Pock goes back to get the puck. He had no one pressuring him (since the other team was changing). He goes for a simple dump up the boards and just nails the referee right in the back. The ref looks back like "are you ****ing kidding me?!?"

Volek gets a pass for that goal against pittsburgh imo. huge huge goal.

Hextall had his best GAA since his rookie season with us. then he got traded back to philly in a knee-jerk move and played great. He played one year here, and got us to the playoffs...That hasnt happened here often.

Malakhov had 52, 57 then 16pts in 26gp before being traded. He wasnt the worst, there are plenty more.

Mitch Fritz and Trevor Gillies are two of the worst hockey players ever. Gino Odjick is up there. Mick Vukota, I loved, but lets be reality, he sucked. Brett Lindros, does Scissions even count?, Sacco, Tom Draper, Eric Fichaud...this is a list that can just go on and on

Right. Role players forced to play out of their role because of lack of talent (Hilbert, Bates, Sim) shouldn't be on it.

Personally, I thought Mike Comrie was one of the most useless players I've ever seen in a NYI uniform for an extended stretch.

Cheers,

Dan-o

By far the most useless "impact" player the Isles ever brought in, and likely Bill Torrey's worst trade ever.

I have a question about Brett Lindros. What the hell was he doing fighting? I youtubed him and it seems like he was always dropping them. What kind of team lets a rookie fight guys like Joe Kocur and Darren Langdon? No wonder he head got all screwed up. Lindros did give us this gem(if you want to call it that)

Not much skill I think but the kid did have heart.
