The only way that the Caps accept this is that they are interested in approaching Jokinen during the summer. Then it doesn't hurt that they get an extended window to throw offers at him.

Someone here should post this proposal on the main board. For some reason it won't let me post there and I'd like to see what people there think about this proposal.

For half of you people with the "this is not enough! teams don't do this!"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_NHL_Entry_Draft
Read all the *'s.

Also for scrubs that don't understand the way trades are made at the draft to move up a couple spaces to simply be able to select the player you want, while doing another team a favour (which they'll pay back at some point of time of course).
See how our lovely #4 was drafted.

'Nuff said.

What a miserable example.

The 30th pick is "first" round, but in reality, the player you're getting there is generally of second round caliber, and is in all forms "The worst pick in the first round". In this trade you have the Leafs more or less trading two early second round picks for a middle to late first round pick.
Also 22 to 30 is 8 spots. The difference between a low 20 and a low 30 is the difference between a getting the 11th overall and getting something like the 20th overall.

Now you factor in the pressure on BB in Leafs nation. He's promised a "rebuild" and then traded away his first round picks when they were nice and low from doing a correct tanking during a rebuild. To compensate, he was unloading assets and trying to get as many firsts as possible last year, in all fairness, 22 looks a lot better on paper than 30 and 39. Much like getting a B on an exam looks better than getting two C+'s on the following two.

I think it was Kitsy who said teams trade 1st rounders all the time, but you wanted to add the rights of a free agent into the mix; a situation that doesn't happen all the time (if ever). Your example showed a 3rd rounder being the factor to move down 3 spots in the 20 to 23 range of what appears to be a weak draft, but where's the pending F.A in the equation?

So really, not E' nuff was said.

Maybe it's because your a rookie user. I believe you're not eligible to vote on polls either. I think maybe you're not eligible for things like viewing people's profile or spending your Vcash.

I know there's some restrictions, and I think it only lasts 3 months or so... but I could be wrong.

Agreed. The question wasn't even close to answered. We are looking for an example of rights to a pending ufa holding enough value to move up a couple spots for a high 1st overall pick.

On the bright side, she'll get more attention on the main boards, so she'll hopefully spend less time cluttering up ours.
