If he ends up in Detroit I'll be following a new team. Him defaulting to laying on his back and doing a snowman got old real quick, mostly because the puck ended up in the back of the net more times than not. It worked 20 years ago but it won't now.
Guy is arguably the best goalie to ever play, and nobody will ever be able to goaltend like he does, but signing him now is a ridiculous idea.
He wouldn't be any worse than Conkblock though heh
Hasek played in the World Hockey Championship in 1983 and the Canada Cup in 1984. He was a top level player then at 19 and 20 years old. (Stuck behind the Iron Curtain and unable to play in the NHL) He is older than Patrick Roy and Mario Lemieux.
In Video Game terms... He predates the original Nintendo System release in North America in 1985 and he was a top level player the year the system was released in Japan in 1983... it was released in July and he played in the World Championship before the release so he basically started being a top level goalie before the NES was released!
The Macintosh Computer was released in January 1984, Hasek's career predates that! Hasek predates the computer mouse! The original Microsoft Windows was released in Novemebr 1985. Again Hasek predates that!
If Hasek could comeback to the NHL he would have played in the 84 Canada Cup, 87 Canada Cup, 88 Olympics, 92 Canada Cup, 98 Olympics, 02 Olympics, 06 Olympics, 08 NHL Season, 10 Czech Season, 11 KHL season, 13 NHL Season.... It would be absolutely incredible.
You know i read the article and it doesn't seem like it's all BS, but i just don't see anyone giving a 47 year old goalie a chance in the NHL, even if that someone is Dominik Hasek. So either it's some strategy on his part how to increase his price in other leagues, or this world is crazier than i thought.
I doubt he cares about the money or is posturing. He is crazy yes, and competitive. He probably mostly just wants to see if he can do it. He probably has more money than he could ever want. I doubt he would expect any more then the NHL minimum if he signed anyway. He just wants to play. I don't doubt he could play some games and win and be good but for how many games could he do it without getting injured?
I think if he really, really wants to play in the NHL this year he is going to have to sign a minor league deal somewhere and play in the AHL for awhile and prove himself and/or wait for one of the top 2 goalies to get injured. Go to camp and play a couple of games, be good enough to sign to the AHL... play amazing there and then maybe get in some NHL games. It seems improbable and it is, but it is not impossible. He is the best ever, and he is a freak of nature, and he has been good in the KHL recently.
He is reminding me of Rickey Henderson. He just can't stop playing!
