Gaborik is more dynamic, explosive, and better with the puck than Nash. Signed to a better contract, too.

Then we have to tank every year like the Penguins.

once sauer comes back he can take over for delzotto. i would like to see erixon given a chance next year if they dont plan on trading him. so then the defense can be staal, mcdonaugh, girardi, sauer, erixon, and stralman.

1. Just get a first line LW (Parise, Nash, or a veteran like Doan, Whitney as stop gap for 2 seasons)

2. Get A REAL 3rd pair Defender to push Bickel/Eminger to 7th and 8th

The thing with the 3rd pairing really gave us problems in the playoffs. If Sauer is not able to return, you have to upgrade over Bickel/Eminger! (I don't think Erixon is a solution, at least not in the first half of the season...)

then it looks like

Doan-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Stepan-Callahan
Dubi-Anisimov-Hagelin
Rupp-Boyle-Prust

McD-Girardi
Staal-Stralman/Sauer
DZ-Stralman/prospect/free agent

or get rid of dubi and insert miller/thomas/zuccarello/random prospect/free agent

if done, I'm really confident for 12/13

Exactly. I will say it again, we NEED Parise IMO. He brings that one dimension we are missing.

One request for this thread: Leave the stupidity at the door. Leave the "trade Gabby for a 7th!" at the door. Stuff like that.

My god what the hell is happening on these boards?
Dude, a blind man can tell how bad Gaborik was. Guy is a liability on defense, turns the puck over, misses open nets. The man makes 7 millions dollars a year. The guy choked, he is a regular season performer.

A blind man would know that we have one ****ing goalscorer on this team.

And, again. This is not a thread for stupid rants like yours. Stop that. If you want to rant about ****, go and make your own thread. This is to discuss offseason plans, etc.

This offseaso's needsn will be like the last one IMO:
- a good secondary scorer, preferably one who drives to the net (although they are hard to find)
- a faceoff specialist for the bottom lines
- bottom pairing D-man who can eat 12+ minutes (even in playoffs)

Will be interesting to see what Slats does with Dubi, AA, Boyle and Prust. I do not expect all of them back next near, nor Feds.

On Gabby, he's the guy who gets you to the playoffs, he doesn't get you thru them. It would be nice if that had of lowered his price tag a bit but it is what it is. Unless you could move him for someone who's getting you at least 30 of those goals back (along with bringing a bunch of other skills) there's no point in moving him

Gaborik did disappoint, but again, secondary scoring would have given the opposition the same problems we had.

Look at all sports teams in general. Offensively, defensively, etc.. A star Defensive End is an even bigger threat when his peers on the line can force pressure. A complimentary wide-receiver prevents the opposition from doubling-up on a star receiver.

Look at the Heat. Lebron. Wade.

Devils have Kovalchuk and Parise.

Gaborik needs help. He isn't Malkin. He's a great scorer, but not a great player. Nash over Gaborik doesn't make this team any better, because we're stuck in the same situation.

Gaborik is a frustrating player at times but anyone who thinks Nash will come in and be any kind of improvement on him is fooling themselves.

We have a problem:

Staal
Girardi
McDonagh
Del Zotto
Erixon
Sauer
McIlrath

are all the top 4 d-men (most top 2)

we need to move someone, open up cap space, and get real bottom pairing defenseman (not Bickel, Eminger etc.) to play with Stralman (who is a good bottom pairing defenseman)

If we're not getting rid of Prust and Boyle, just make the moves to make sure they play 4th line.

Trade Gaborik for grinders.

I want more grinders.

Specifically 4th line ones.

Nice ones that grind well, real well.

Regular season performers are pretty damn valuable. There's no post-season w/o those pesky regular season stars.

Serious mode:

I'm not opposed to trading the guy. But I'd want a first and a top prospect for him (and then flip that first + more for another skilled scorer). The idiocy of just wanting to dump the guy is what annoys me.

Clear candidates for scape goats:

-Dubinsky
-Del Zotto
-Anisimov
-Sad Stu

I think everyone else had one hell of a season
