Turning point of the Rangers/Devils series?

I'd vote for game 2, when they were up 2-1 late in the 2nd. They just couldn't clear the puck. Devils score on a deflection, and go on to win in the 3rd. If they can hang on there until the 3rd, up 2-1, they probably win that game and go up 2-0 in the series.

I think that was the turning point. Not being able to grab a 2 game lead in a series finally caught up with the Rangers. They did not deserve to move on, sad to say.

Being 0-7 in games when leading a playoff series is really unacceptable.

But coming out and letting the Devils control EVERY first period was just...

You're in the ECF!! Come out with some emotion. I can honestly say: they only deserved to win one game in this series: Game 5. But can you honestly say that anyone outside of Hank deserved to be on the winning side of Games 1 and 3? Devils took a lot of positives out of those games. They played great and lost. Didn't have to change a thing. Just knew that if they kept working, they'd be rewarded.

It's all over now. GO KINGS GO!

Game 4 killed us. You can't have an effort like that.

It was the likeliest turning point out of a bunch of candidates in the series

I don't think losing Game 2 was the turning point. It could have helped us by finally being up in a series 2 games. We did - after all - win Game 3.

I think the turning point was Game 4. That team played apathetic, and with that, the Devils offense brought it to another level.

First 3 goals in Game 4, first 3 goals in Game 5, first 2 goals in Game 6.

When you decide to "take games off" you simply don't deserve to move on. I hate to say it, but the Rangers took too many games off this playoff run. Their luck just ran out. YOU CANT TAKE ONE GAME OFF IN THE PLAYOFFS. I hope the young guys onthis team learned that lesson.

I don't think they took many games off. But I think if they couldn't score first they had a heck of time responding.

The lack of offense and the grind of the season caught up with them. Bickel's lack of use(well cause he sucked)didn't help alleviate our D corps minutes. That caught up with us as well.

I have no idea why everyone thinks the Devils dominated game 1. The first period was even, slight edge to the Devils, but slight, neither team did much, second period the Devils dominated, and third period we dominated. At worst that's a slight edge to the Devils.

just a reason not to trade gabs for anything less offensive (so basically trade him for stamkos, malkin, nash, kessel eh) and i think it all went down hill in game 4

that was a game 4 hangover and the first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes of that game is where the devils won it

I would say Game 4 stretching into the first period of Game 5. Game 2 sucked for sure....we came out slow but played a great 2nd period and grabbed the lead. Thats the type of game we hang onto and win during the reg season. Let it slip away...big blown chance and I believe if we go up 2-0 this series is definetly won by us.

With that said, we did rebound in Game 3. Yet we basically didnt show up in Game 4...it was almost like the Devils took their game to another level starting in Game 4, and for 4 periods of hockey we had no answer for it. Lose Game 4, and then get down 3 goals in Game 5.

I think it's when we didn't show up in the first periods of game 5 and 6. Especially disappointing tonight actually. We showed that we can play with them in the last 2 games after the first period but the team wasn't ready.

No one is disputing that. The Devils dominated all 1st period. That's 2 games right there.

To me it's gotta be game 4. The effort in that game was abysmal. A lot of our guys had a pretty terrible series (Gaborik, Callahan , et. Al.) but nearly the whole team just slept through the 60 minutes that were played. They literally woke up for some decent pressure in the last 3 minutes.

That being said, consistency was NOT the name of our game at ANY point of the playoffs. The three teams we played, especially the Debs, changed their to play us; finding new ways to counter our puny offense and great defense. I'm far from excusing guys who didn't meet our expectations, but everyone is guilty of not being consistent in each series.

Take your pick. Games 2, 5, and 6 were there to be won.

Game 2 - No killer instinct. Leading and then losing it
Game 4 - Abysmal effort
Game 5 - Big comeback, no killer instinct, bam lost.
Game 6 - Big comeback, no killer instinct, bam lost.

Agreed. This was the beginning of the end. It literally looked like they gave up after that. Sure they scored some goals and made the games look close scoreboard-wise, but frankly, it looked to me like they were just going through the motions.

Game 5. 4 goals against in 16 shots. Hank is anything close to normal that game ad there is a game 7.

Game 4. We win that, go up 3-1, we win this series without a doubt in my mind. But our failure to put teams away in series, AND in games for that matter, cost us here. The Devils gained momentum from that win and never looked back.

Turning point? Game 2. Couldn't escape the 2nd period with the 2-1 lead, which I think we would've held in the 3rd period. Instead of 2-0, it became 1-1 and it was a series.

Carter redirection right before 2nd intermission in game 2 which tied up it up 2-2. Eventually, Clarkson won that game in the third and instead of being up 2-0 in the series the Rangers came to Jersey tied. Carter became our Matteau in this series. Big big goals.

When we outclassed the Devils in game 5 without getting the W.
