Financial trouble or not Lamoriello has a job to do, and he will stop at next to nothing trying to sign Parise with Suter if this is a legitamate rumour. Worst case scenerio Devils go Bankrupt, the team gets sold, and Parise and Suter play for new owners.

Well until Datsyuk Zetterberg Franzen leave i think they will be in the playoffs most years. Including Howard and they resign there captain. Now your adding Parise and Suter that to me is a powerhouse team for awile. Not to mention the surrounding cast of Bertuzzi Filppula and Kronwal.

That's why the Devils have been adding to their payroll all year right?

The Devils were looking to lose in the neighborhood of $15M this reason due to arena expenses, but 10-12 home playoff games pretty much neutralized that. They may even turn a slight profit.

Vanderbeek is on the way out, it's only a matter of time. With the Devils freeing up cash from Brodeur this year and Elias next year the cash is only a short term problem. Zach could easily do what Kovy did, take $6M his first two years and then cash in later in the contract.

So a team in financial trouble is going to sign the 2 biggest free agents to long term large contracts with cap hits of at least 7 million and probably 10 million a season contracts for the first part of their deals?

If you actually believe that they maybe you'd like to buy these 3 magic beans I have or I have some swamp land in the arctic for sale.

I see you forgot Ryan Clowe. Does this mean he is to be traded? If so Toronto is listening

despite of bankruptcy talks it would be very strange for Lamoriello to sign a lazy soft selfish russian for big bucks, and one year later let team's heart go. I think Parise will resign 100% this summer.

Is it just me or is Suter overrated? What trophies has he ever won? Seems pretty sad that this guy is the best guy on the market right now. Someone will grossly overpay him.

My bet is that if Suter doesn't re-sign in Nashville, he'll join Parise in New Jersey.

It's definately just you. If anything Suter is underrated. Watch him play and focus on him and you'll see just how dam good he is and why so many teams want to sign him.

There's so much to note on this it's not even funny.

First of all, the reality is if they want to go to any team where they'll have a chance of winning immediately (Detroit's pretty much the only one with the cap space) they'll have to take less money.

Secondly, VERY interesting note about Kovy's salary shooting up. Props to whoever noted that. Doesn't sound good for Jersey.

Third, while I'd like to see Detroit sign both, realistically they'd have to take serious pay-cuts. If the CBA results in the cap going down or at least not going up by much they'd be screwed unless there was a salary rollback or each team was allowed a buyout freebie.

People that think they're going to Colorado amuse me.

As does the genius that thinks Detroit's depth pool is shallow. Nyquist is looking like a potential player of anywhere from 50-70 points a season. Jarnkrok is doing better than Zetterberg did in the SEL. Jurco is looking like a monster. Smith could AVERAGE 40-60 points a season.

Muffled laughs are coming from Ken Holland's office as he pops the champagne just after finishing Jurco and Jarnkrok's ELCs.

edit: okay, maybe not Birmingham quite so much (per capita income of only like 50k), but Bloomfield Hills is the second most affluent city in the US.

Not to mention Detroit's been at or near the top of the player's poll of teams to sign with for years now.

After many years of free agency periods, I'm not sure I've ever seen a fan base and it's media more confident that particular free agents would sign with their teams than Detroit fans with Parise and Suter.

It sounds as if it is already a done deal. I guess we'll see if it turns out to be true.

Highly doubt this is true. If both players are leaving their respective teams, a large reason will be money. Why would they limit their value by demanding to be on the same team. They are potentially two of the biggest UFAs to come around in a while. Teams will be all over them, but few will have both the budget and the cap space to sign both at large deals.

Also, while I'd like to see this happen in Detroit, this entire "rumor" came out of a Detroit news outlet. It's not a "rumor" and there's been no evidence that they want to sign with the same team.

It's basically speculation that two American players who are good friends MIGHT want to play with each other.

The reality is that unless Suter and Parise are in a domestic partnership with each other, they probably aren't absolutely determined to sign on the same team. While I'd like to see them both in Detroit and I think it's POSSIBLE, it's not probable. (Though I think one of the two is likely)

I'll go over Detroit's cap in a minute.
