But,he would not move De Haan for a mid first round pick.

1.Snow is losing 4 vets off his defense, to unrestricted free agency this summer.

2.Snow is working under payroll restrictions, making it tough to make trades or sign top ufas.

3.21 yr old De Haan is Snow's top blueline prospect.

4.After 1 yr in the AHL De Haan is nhl ready(or darn close to it).

5.The 15th overall pick falls into the 3rd tier group, behind Nail and picks 2nd-8th.
It's 2-4 yrs from reaching the NHL.

6.Trading a 21 yr old for an 18 yr old, is the exact opposite of what Snow has tried to do at the last two drafts.

His previous track record of being almost a PPG defensemen in the OHL. That he makes great outlet passes, and knows where he team mates are..... his innate ability to hold onto the puck that extra split second with defenders bearing down on him that allows opening passing/shooting lanes. You know.... things you would actually have to watch him play to notice.

Quite the opposite actually. I gave concrete proof (PPG in the OHL), you gave more baseless opinion stated as fact.
ppg in the OHL with no progression in 3 years is not evidence.

How many defensemen who had 0.28 ppg in their first AHL season went on to produce 40 points in the NHL? Very very little.

im not worried about is "lack" of points in his first pro season....The islanders care more about him working on his positioning and defensive game....His descision making his very good and he has a good feel for offense...Points will come.....Also a suprising part of his game is he hits and does not shy away from physical play....

Hopfully his shoulder can hold up and he will be fine...

I say let him and Donovan battle for a roster spot in camp, IMO I think Donovan gets it which would be goood for de Hann to get another half a season or so in the AHL.....

Anyway Isles(snow) are very high on de Hann and are not trading him for an even more younger and unproven pick....

Never said he would do this deal. In fact I doubt he would unless he really really likes someone at 15. I was more commenting on the fact that if we really want De Haan, we might be able to grab him (although I suspect if he's dealt its for a more experienced DMan, which we don't really have).

Ok.Again.

De Haan's 1st yr in Bridgeport, playing under Thompson has served him well.He looked a lot more poised in his brief nhl callup this season.I'd call that progression from the skill, but raw youngster from previous viewings.

Ken McKenna here on hf has a new article up,covering NYI prospects. He calls Donovan(45 pts), the NYI best blueline prospect. He says it was neck and neck between Donovan and De Haan.

Pronman over at hockeyprospectus also says the talent level between the two is extremely close, giving the edge to Donovan, saying Donovan's upside is a #3 defenseman.

I think Donovan will put up more pts in the NHl,but De Haan will be the better all round defenseman.I expect both will be top 4 defensemen for the NYI.

This is a good point....our call ups really SHocked the hell outa me......before the season, I was not as High on Donovan as many other Isles fans and I was even lower on "Little" Aaron Ness.

When These Isles defensive prospects(Donovan and Ness) came up they not only played well but they looked like they were not even rookies..I was so immpressed with Donovan and Ness play... Thompson has done a supurb job with the young players in Bport.. The Organization Puts more of an emphasis on thier prospects playing and Learn thier position the correct way....like I said the point production will come these 3 defensman especially Donovan and Ness have come reallly far and Im excited to see where they are by next year.

The fact that some can call de Hann a dissapointment at this point is outragous...

again, i am going to stand by this, the isles problems have absolutely nothing to do with their macdonald- hamonic pairing who are both first pairing dmen and can be first pairing d men on a stanley cup champion

the isles struggles have everything to do with their bottom 2 lines and their bottom 3 d men

Somewhere on these boards is my post, taking swipes at Ness in his last yr at Minn.

I think I called it a waste of a 2nd round pick

I've been high on Donovan since his college days,so his playing well at Bridgeport wasn't a big surprise for me.
