I h don't think they end up both going to the same team. They are two elite American players, but where is the evidence they are even close friends. They aren't from the same state, they didn't go to school together or even play together other than internationally. It seems like every article I have read seems to simply assumes both these guys want to go to the same place.

Even the Detroit news admits:

Quote:
"Despite all of the talk, Suter and Parise are not close friends at all, really," said one official of that U.S. team, which lost the gold medal to Canada in overtime. "It's not like they spend time together in the offseasons, or their families hang out.

Projected:

Nyquist ($875,000) Datsyuk ($6,700,000) Franzen ($3,950,000)
Parise ($6,750,000) Zetterberg ($6,000,000) Filppula ($3,000,000)
Bertuzzi ($2,075,000) Abdelkader ($1,250,000) Cleary ($2,800,000)
Miller ($837,000) Helm ($1,750,000) Eaves ($1,200,000)

Emmerton ($533,000) Mursak ($550,000)

Lidstrom ($4,000,000) Suter ($6,000,000)
Kronwall ($4,750,000) White ($2,875,000)
Ericsson ($3,250,000) Quincey ($3,500,000)

Kindl ($883,000)

Howard ($2,250,000)
MacDonald ($550,000)

Comes out to about $66,400,000. If the cap goes down Detroit would be royally screwed. Howard, Filppula, Smith, and Nyquist will all be looking for raises in the 2013 offseason. Cleary and Lidstrom coming off the books plus a possible cap raise could cover all those raises, but you really have to ask if that's a risk worth taking.

And $4M for Lidstrom is being generous. Either Detroit's gonna give him what he's worth or he's gonna take whatever cut is necessary to go for the guys they want.

So it's possible, but there are risks. The best thing Detroit could do to drop that cap a little is dangle Quincey out and see if anybody would offer sheet him, while bringing Smith up to the team to fill Quincey's spot.

I have to agree with this. Though honestly, with the point that I totally forgot about (Kovalchuk's salary going up $5M) Parise back to the Devils seems even less likely than it did before.

Like it or not, he'll be going down from his $6.2M salary, the question is how much farther down. If Holland legitimately wants to go for both Parise and Suter I think Lidstrom would take a huge cut to go for the entire handful of Cup rings before his retirement. The guy has made $100M over his career. It's not about the money anymore.

The reality is you could throw darts at a board to guess his salary, but it's all gonna depend on how active Holland wants to be on July 1st.

MN offers 6 year $45m deals. We have Parise's new lake house and Tom Gilbert. LOL

Why is Nashville not even in this discussion? The team has some great pieces, continually makes the playoffs and has the cap space to retain Suter and sign Parise. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Well seeing as how they'd like to keep Shea Weber...

Not to mention the fact that they've been out of the playoffs for nearly 3 weeks now and there hasn't been a peep about talks with Suter. Bottom line is if a deal was gonna be done, it probably would've been done by now.

Keep dreaming.

I dislike these threads, usually fans come in saying "well here's the evidence they want to play for my team, so it's going to happen I hope!"

So what you're saying is that you didn't read the dialogue after the roster?

Yeah, I kinda figured that considering there are multiple skeptical terms in there such as "If the cap goes down Detroit would be royally screwed", "You have to as if that's a risk worth taking", "$4M for Lidstrom is being generous", and "It's possible, but there are risks".

I absolutely did. You do a decent job trying to cover your dreaming with the "it might not happen" bits but then you are so quick to shoot down the idea that Parise might want to re-sign in NJ, or that the Preds are an option, etc.

Clearly not closely enough, nor the posts I made before the roster that said it was possible but I don't see it happening.

That would imply you got into it at all. You simply laughed at a post that explored the possibility while clearly stating it was unlikely and very risky without providing any reason to back up why you deemed it absurd.

But of course, here you are talking about maturity.

Canucks trade Luongo 5.3 Ballard 4.2 and Booth 4.25 away for picks and prospects and sign Schultz and Garrison

Then pick up Parise, Suter

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Parise Kesler Kassian
Higgins Schroeder Hansen

Edler Suter
Hamhuis Bieksa
Garrison Schultz

Schneider

win.

You aren't awarded cap space for being in the Finals. It's clearly very possible that he resigns, but not 100% for sure at all.

Parise will test open Market. The Devils have financial problems not to mention Kovys contract kicks in next year at 6plus.

Not a chance Parise goes anywhere. I feel the Devils will easily resign him since they made it far and he will likely wish to stay with the Cup team rather than a declining team like Detroit. No way he's going anywhere unless someone really overpays.

Suter will be the next Redden IMO. Once the big contract kicks in, the value will suffer. I still think he re-signs with Nashville.

What's with all the "replace Lidstrom with Suter" talk? There's no guarantee that Lidstrom is even going to retire yet. I'd guess that he comes back for at least another year.

What teams actually have the cap space to sign both RIGHT NOW? Right now, not teams that have to lose player x, y, and z to make room. I know the Wild have room and it sounds like Colorado has a lot of room too.
