can someone briefly explain the #/5 protection thing?
Club which fulfill conditions (to finance own school, minimum 20 milions rubles/year) can protect 5 own kids. This club HAS TO offer the kid contract this summer. If not, club loses right (plus pay fine?? not sure, you have to read rules)

Quote:
Dinamo Minsk wanted to draft Nichuskin, but Traktor said NO. So, his KHL right belongs to Traktor. Club has to offer him contract this summer, believe 3years.

Quote:
Cape Breton
Nichuskin was protected, so Minsk made another choice.

This protecting issuse can go on and go on. Look at Neftechimik vs Ak Bars battle

Quote:
http://www.khl.ru/news/2012/5/26/43330.html

there are rules of protection

Whats the point of drafting Swedes and Finns? They won't play in Russia.

Just because players wont play for the team means nothing. Look at the NHL draft - outside of the first round, none of those kids will ever play in the NHL.

MLB draft? It's like 30 rounds, NONE of those kids are making it, but its a system so teams can claim the rights, bring kids into their development system if they choose, and avoid a free agent bidding war
Not true. Dustin Byfuglien was drafted in 8th round and now he is a NHL star

as example Amur - they have finnish coach. And I can name another clubs. Point can be aslo in financial compensation (depends on round), which you must pay to RUSSIAN club who raised kid. If your club has weak own kids + you dont want to pay money to some russian club = you pick foreigner.

Donbass tried to get Lisov, CSKA trolled them right back

Hate that we again drafted players that really didn't need to get drafted. Dynamo used their protections early and we could of snatched younger and supposedly more talanted Haralds Podzinsh. Barys made the same mistake with their bid to get back Kazakh player from Omsk. Neftekhimik showed how it's done. They picked Kazan players six times in a row and finally got a player from a great school. How can KHL GM's be so thick, the talant is there to be had left and right but they refuse to see the opportunity. Sigh.

for Helo a co.

Alexandrov, picked as 1st overall by SKA

It is said that in the KHL Draft is not needed. And it will help you?
- Draft, of course, needed. Clubs choose the players they like. It is very important for the kids themselves, they do not need to go for the views across the country. Man now knows where to go play.

That's a pretty rare example. Obviously gems exist (Datsyuk and Zetterberg) but I'm just speaking in general. Just like the KHL draft - in general, those picked wont make it.

why to draft foreigners? because russians who we wanted were picked earlier and we dont want to waste money (if picking russian) for weak russian kid.

since he was drafted from Atlant, how was Donbass able to use protection on Lysenko?

Donbass picked him, but Altant used protection. So Lysenko´s rights belongs to Atlant.

Donbass did not have protection right. Neither Slovan, HC LEV, Vityaz, Barys, Minsk, Riga.

In the first round draft pick HC "Donbass" claimed the 17-year-old native of Kiev Vladislav Lysenko, who "defended" Moscow "Atlanta." The second round of selection became Shakhtar Swede Lindholm Hampus
if atlant vetoed the pick, why did donbass make getting him official news? im so lost

I see that here: http://www.khl.ru/news/2012/5/26/43330.html. Lysenko picked by Donbass, protected by Atlant. Then Donbass picks Lidholm instead.

I am not native russian speaker but I understand this very good.

Donbass wanted to pick Lysenko, borned in Kiev, WHO WAS PROTECTED by Atlant.

you can watch it on khl YT (since 49:40)
