Declining team like DETRIOT! Im sorry but thats way to funny. Have you looked at there roster. They made the playoffs like the last 20 years. I guess Datsyuk Zetterberg Frazen Filppula and even Lidstrom who you think will retire but if not is always in the top 3 D in the league. Did i miss Jimmy Howard. Then you ADD Parise and Suter. Give me a break Declining!

Kind of curious as to where you've heard this?

Wings looking to strike gold?
4:28
PM ET
Detroit Red Wings
RECOMMEND1COMMENTS5EMAIL

Few would argue that Zach Parise and Ryan Suter will be the biggest names available if they hit free agency this summer. And few would argue that the Detroit Red Wings already have plenty of talent on their roster.

That's where things could get interesting though. There is a growing sense among some people around the NHL that Parise and Suter would like to play together next year. And, if so, Detroit has to be considered one of the top contenders to land the duo. The Wings figure to have the money that would be necessary to sign both of them, as well as a very real chance to make a deep run -- something Parise has indicated is very important -- and a style of play that each could flourish in.

As Gregg Krupa of the Detroit News points out, this could potentially play out similarly to the way LeBron James and Chris Bosh decided to join the Miami Heat together in the NBA back in 2010. That said, this is far from a done deal. Plenty of contenders will be able to throw a lot of money at either Parise or Suter. But if the theory that the two would like to play together proves to be correct, the list of landing spots narrows around Detroit considerably.

but yeah, even as a Detroit fan, I think this is nonsense. I don't believe the rumors they'll sign together, and I don't think Detroit has any particular edge unless Jimmy Howard is blowing up some phones. The edge Detroit has traditionally enjoyed in free agent signings has been how well the players are treated by the ownership, and there's a lot of belief in Detroit right now that Mike Illitch is more concerned with winning the World Series before he dies than winning another cup.

What teams actually have the cap space to sign both RIGHT NOW? Right now, not teams that have to lose player x, y, and z to make room. I know the Wild have room and it sounds like Colorado has a lot of room too.
Teams that have the capspace and an owner willing to spend it in my mind are: Colorado, Dallas?, Ottawa, Winnipeg, FSt. Louis and Minnesota

San Jose could easily afford it if they wanted to by simply moving Boyle. His NTC becomes limited this off-season. Also Clowe, Murray, and Handzus will very likely be moved. I wouldn't be surprised to see Marleau moved if he can be moved either.

We have the cap space, now can we sign high-end free agents? No, lol.

Devils will have the money to pay Parise. Don't buy into the sensationalism by journalists.

We have A LOT of cash coming off the books. Lou is a wizard. I wouldn't be surprised to see them both sign with NJ.

Just as amusing as people who think everyone will take a discount to sign in Detroit because it is the next best thing since sliced bread.

There are flaws in everyone's logic around here. We won't know where they sign until they put ink to paper, but to say neither of them would come to Colorado is just as ludicrous as saying both of them will want to play in Detroit.

Your first problem is assuming Detroit is declining. They have a legend nearing retirement? Cool, so does New Jersey...

But clearly you've educated yourself on their prospect system well enough to know that none of their prospects are going anywhere just like the people who claimed they were "declining" in the early 2000s right?

I just don't think these two will sign with the same teams. Not a lot of teams can afford their combined salary also. The teams that can are not that competitive. I understand adding them will make them a good team, but them alone doesn't make them cup contenders. They will be on different teams when the season starts next year. The rumor is also from a Detroit newspaper. Not saying they are not credible, but it seems more like wishful thinking. After the was published now everyone thinks it could happen!

My guess is Devils win the cup, Parise still leaves. Fans will be mad but they still have their cup. He is leaving no matter what I think.

Suter is definitely on his way out of Nashville. I don't care where he is from or his hometown is blah blah blah. These guys are professional hockey players, he has made his home in Nashville for the last 7 years. He will sign where he thinks is the best situation for him and his family plus his career.

Anyone's guess to where they sign really, but I hope they make the off season fun!

Very far fetched but TB is going full force at Suter. It would be interesting.
tampa bay has no chance...sorry bud..it`s probably detroit, or maybe bruins but i don`t know well their cap situation..rask-chara, suter-parise, seguin,lucic..that would be sick

First of all, a team that makes the Cup final is not a Cup team unless they win it. Also, If Parise and Suter sign with Detroit then they will no longer be declining. Yes the teams they are on right now have the best chance of re-signing each player, but IF they test the waters, I don't think there is a team with the money, consistency, style of play, supporting cast and stability of the Red Wings. Those are all factors.

No the odds are not high, and it's hard to see parise leaving NJ with the success they've had, but what if Marty retires? Elias? Can they be a cap team? Kovy starts making $11+ million next year. There are a lot of factors beyond their recent success that could make him available to other teams.

not really if he wins a cup marty likely retires and the chance of a repeat would be gone. Why come back at that point? I could still see him leave
