I think Vokoun would do good in Toronto.

Gives them some stability in the nets.

Don't sign him if Reimer is good to go. Vokoun is way too inconsistent, shaky, and lets way too many soft, deflating goals in.

Vokoun wants to be in the NHL. Would love it if the Leafs signed him. Solid goalie.

It would be a smart signing IMO. He could be a very good stop gap goalie.

Isn't Simmons a noted hack?

What sort of news is it that the Leafs will pursue Vokoun this offseason anyways? They clearly need better goaltending and he's far and away going to be the best option available through FA.

Question is how many years and how much? 2 years seems to be about the absolute max, 6 or 7 for the duration I guess. Somewhere in there anyways.

I like it. Much better than shipping off assets for Luongo/Kipper etc.

It's going to be a bidding war and it will cost more then that. Also I believe he wants to go to a contender and we all know the Leafs are not quite there yet.

When looking at the UFA market for Goalies I guess Vokoun is the best one available. However if he couldn't play that well in Washington who was supposed to be a better team, then how could he handle playing in Toronto.

Would rather do this than go after Luongo. Sign one of Vokoun/Harding, and have Reimer as the other goalie in the tandem. That should at least be more reliable than Reimer-Gustavsson or Reimer-Scrivens. Who knows, maybe Scrivens ousts Reimer, he's looked very impressive in the AHL playoffs.

Depends how well he recovers from his groin injury. Those can kill careers.

If we did not sign him this year in Washington we would not have made the playoffs. He was much more good than bad.

I thought Vokoun was pretty good in the first half of the season or so. He held a .920+ sv% for most of the year until taking a bit of a dip near the end. He still finished with a respectable .917 sv% in 48 games. If he can put up those stats with Toronto next year while Reimer can go back to playing .915-.920 sv% hockey it would be a vast improvement for the team.

I can't see him getting more than 3 years at 12 million, I really can't.

Burke would be smart to sign Vokoun but make sure the contract does not include any no-trade or no-movement clauses.
Let Vokoun compete in camp and pre-season games with Reimer and Scrivens and the two best goalies stay!
IF Vokoun is not one of those, waive him or let him go the KHL. If he is, great...allows more time for Reimer, Scrivens, Rynnas and Owuya to develop OR be a trade chip.

Far better than giving up the king's ransom that deluded canuck fans are demanding for Luongo and his outrageous contract!

Also, at $1.5 or even with a raise to $2 million, Vokoun's cap hit will not prevent the Leafs from fitting Rich Nash into their line-up (actually Reimer could be a big part of the package to acquire him).

Actually the Leafs were a contender AND in a playoff position until Joffrey Lupul had a season ending injury.
With one of the youngest teams in the League maturing, far better coaching and as many as 7 Marlies able to contribute next season, the Leafs will be a solid contender.

No way that will go down. Minimum he takes is 3.5. If Harding goes first he will get more money.

My thoughts exactly. Vokoun should be our first option over taking on Luongo's contract.

Would work in theory yes, but Luongo will NOT want to be a back up. He will want to be traded if he isn't a starter. When someone wants to be traded, they get traded, otherwise they can become a cancer.

Vancouver has a very solid team and defense. If you acquire Luongo on a team like T.O. where the defense isn't nearly as solid and he sucks -- what do you do with that contract? It's a HUGE risk for any team and the reason there won't be a huge return for Luongo. Queue the denial of Nuck fans.
Fun fact for you. Toronto allowed only two more shots this season than we did. Had you had decent goaltending and not an embarrassing penalty kill, you would have made the playoffs. Furthermore, you have no basis to claim Luongo sucks considering he has been solid in every season for Vancouver and Florida, the latter of which did not have a stellar team whatsoever. He has occasional meltdowns but every player goes through that. Brown was nearly shipped out by LA. Doubt they considering doing that anymore.
