Chicago - Tampa Bay

Will likely be bad (especially considering I'm not a fan of either so value will probably be off), but flame away all you want. I'll need constructive criticism to improve the quality of proposals.

TO TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING:
Ray Emery
2012 first round pick (Chicago's)
Shawn Lalonde
2012 third round pick (Chicago's)

TO CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS:
2012 first round pick (Tampa's)
2013 fourth round pick (Tampa's)

Why does Tampa do it?
Tampa does this for multiple reasons. With the addition of Ray Emery, the Lightning get a guy who can stand in as a starter for a year, cheap, to wait while prospects develop. He can also be a solid back-up for the team should they choose to go after a player such as Harding or Luongo. Lalonde has the potential to be a low risk, high reward player for the Lightning. I don't know too much about him but apparently he is somewhat streaky but has shown flashes of brilliance before. The third round pick could be packaged in a deal for a player, should the Lightning choose to. The first pick from Chicago gives them the potential to draft a player such as Slater Koekkoek to help bolster their blueline. Koekkoek is a big, strong guy who is solid at both his defensive play and his leadership. The perfect kind of kid for the Lightning.

Why does Chicago do it?
There are a few reasons that the Blackhawks do this. By subtracting Ray Emery from the situation, it opens up a hole to let the Corey Crawford... Experiment? Continue. They can bring in a veteran goalie to help solidify Corey's game and help him reach his potential. (Hasek? ) The third round pick from 2013 is another pick that could either be included in a package, or used to boost the depth of the Blackhawks. The tenth overall pick, however, is incredibly useful to the Hawks' situation. With the tenth pick, the Blackhawks may be able to draft centre Radek Faksa. A solid two-way centre, Faksa would fit in perfectly as that elusive second line centre the Hawks so desperately need.

Once again, feel free to criticize, etc. I appreciate feedback.

Umm yeah, where do I sign? I don't see any Bolts fans going for this, though.

Yeah, you're going to get flamed pretty badly.

Chicago should do this in a heartbeat. No Emery and moving up to 10th in the draft is a win win. I like Lalonde, but he's definitely expendable.

Tampa should run away from this deal screaming. Emery won't solve their problems in net, and they move down in the draft at the same time.

What a terrible trade for Tampa. Bowman thanks Yzerman and buys him dinner.

What would it take to make this deal less lopsided?

Terrible. We have zero interest in adding another backup and we'd move down in the draft - why on earth would we do that?

Get rid of Emery, switch our first to detroits. Add one of our seconds, and chi adds Hjalmarson

A goaltender that Chicago doesn't have.

Change Emery and Chicagos 3rd to Dylan Olsen and Niklas Hjalmarsson and this is a bit closer.

Original is horrendous for TB.

Ah.. haha.. hahahaha.. ha.

You think the difference between 18 and 10 is Niklas Hjalmarsson, an NHL top-4 Dman AND Dylan Olsen, an NHL Dman (or damn close to it) with top-4 potential? Yeah.. no.

The original deal is awful for Tampa. That was just as bad.

Why does Chicago do this?

Picks are not something we need.

Yeah if we're dealing our first round pick I think we could manage something a little better than Ray Emery.

To get Faksa. Chicago needs centres, do they not?

Changing your first to Detroit means that Chicago trades down to get a second round pick by giving up Hjalmarsson, their first and other picks

Sorry my, bad. I forgot to say you get to keep your first. Is that fair value?

So...

TO TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING:
Niklas Hjalmarsson
Shawn Lalonde
2012 third round pick (Chicago's)

TO CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS:
2012 first round pick (Detroit's)
2012 second round pick (Tampa's)
2013 fourth round pick (Tampa's)

As said before, I'm not a fan of either team.. But that looks fair to me.

Why wouldn't Tampa just try and sign a UFA goalie (there's several potential starters)? Wouldn't this make more sense than giving up assets for Emery who's so-so at best.

If come July 1st Ryan Suter signs a contract to become a Blackhawk then yeah sure. Hjalmarsson's gotta go in that case to work with the cap and a 1st + 2nd is a fair return. But if not then no way Hawks give up a top 4 D Man like that for a piece centered around a player that will take a long time to make the NHL. Not in need of cap relief without another big player big added.
