Sounded like the Flyers didn't really have intentions on signing Chaput. At least they did something with him. Didn't hear much about him.
Brendan Ranford will be the next name on this list. He's unlikely to be signed. Something has to be done with the scouting department in that regard if we're not even getting these guys to a pro contract.
Good to know Sestito and CARBOMB really contributed to this team.
The Flyers will always employ that type of player. It is what they think is their identity. I hate it and often times think the moves to get these type of players stink, but it is what it is. Once you except there will always be dumb moves to acquire a goons, you can enjoy the offseason better.
Sort of, but at the time it was a necessary trade. Hitch hated Sharp, and he wasn't too popular with the fans either. He barely looked like an NHL player at the time and the only thing I remember about him in a Flyer uni is the 04 brawl. Nobody could have foreseen that a fourth liner/AHL player would develop so well in Chicago.
Not too sure how the Carter deal can be seen as wasting an asset. Want to expand on that a bit?
The same with Richards and Versteeg. Please expand on those two. I do the Richards deal again and again. I know you (Chris) are not a big fan of Schenn's. But time will tell. Versteeg I am happy he is now doing well for but lets face it the team had to cut bait there. As far as Ville. What were you going to get for him? Every team knew we were not going to resign him and do you think he will ever be worth that contract?
Michael Chaput is a hell of a junior player. But I'm sure Sestito will be better.
Yeah... Oh, and Chaput was just named Memorial Cup MVP.
Chaput played really well. Big strong kid. We'll see how he does in the pros, well I'm sure. Not worrying about it now though, that's just crying over spilled milk. At least it reaffirms for Homer that he has to trust his scouts, esp. his Quebec based scouts - they are very smart.
And we'll need Sestito's size next year, and he was starting to make a contribution this year. I guess it was trade a prospect or trade a draft pick to get Sestito.
I still can't get over the fact that Holmgren traded away the greatest player in NHL history, Scottie Upshall. Good grief.
Due to their difference in age. The guy who played in the NHL couldn't even crack Columbus' roster full time. Not exactly someone I'd go out of my way to acquire.
Get ready for a whole bunch more deals this offseason across the league to add size on the wings.
The Kings' and Devils' big wingers (and Boston's last year) will create a rush to get bigger - and the Flyers will surely get on board.
We probably needed to be bigger on the wings, and getting Sestito two deadlines ago was a recognition of that. This doesn't not make trading Chaput less regrettable, it is, but real GMs don't get do-overs.
Sestito will play a bigger role for the Flyers next year, and given the presence of smaller bodies like Briere and Talbot at forward, I expect some of our less entrenched smaller forward to get dealt or pushed down the depth chart so bigger guys can be acquired. Guys like Read, Wellwood, HarryZ will be vulnerable.
