You are going to have to do a LOT better for us to take on that abomination of a contract. Vanek is a nice player, but Kesler is better and cheaper...whats our motivation to make that deal?

Nobody is untouchable, but Burrows is pretty close. You don't find guys who score 30 goals, a lot of them clutch, play great defense, and do great work on the PK for $2m. When you have those players you don't give them away cheap, if at all.

Awful.

Kesler won't be going anywhere and if he was Myers would be part of the package.

I like Vanek has a player, but that contract is an albatross. We would take on over $2m per season in cap space - no joy on that front.

And I'd be loathe to deal Burrows. The guy bleeds Canuck colours and fits this team so well.

And why would the Canucks trade their #2 centre for a winger with a $2 million higher cap hit?

Honestly, it would have to be an overpayment.
Vanek, Roy, and Leopold for Kesler and Ballard.

And even then, I'm not even sure I would want the Canucks to do it. Vanek's contract is pretty scary, and the Canucks lose a physical top 6 forward and get two non-physical guys.

Kesler is not moving unless we are either getting a centre back (and one that can play on the 2nd line) or through another deal first. Even if Vanek is dynamite with the Sedins that means we'll have basically no 2nd line.

Basically it's really no dice for Kesler with the current situation. And if he is in play, Buffalo wouldn't be the team to make a deal with.

Burrows for Roy and a 2nd would be a great deal for the Canucks. No idea why the Sabres would do that though.

Well our coach just loves inconsistent goal scorers who don't bring much else to the table, so sign me up.

And Heatley will get 75 goals playing with Thornton, and Nash will play great now that he has a #1 center in Carter....

One player in the Western Conference hit 80 points this year, and no player hit 40 goals.

Anyway the Canucks don't need Vanek, they do need Ryan Kesler. It's as simple as that and no matter how much time you want to spend in this thread arguing with Canucks fans that Vanek might thrive here the fact that you would evidently prefer Ryan Kesler over him says it all.

Vanek has never had a true number 1 center . he would of had 36 goals last year but he got hurt .

carter is not a pass first guy . that's why he did not work out with Nash

All snarkiness aside (I don't think I've ever seen a trade proposal not devolve into snarkiness), as others have said, we'd have to have a centre coming back to at least partially fill the gaping hole left by Kesler. In addition to that, the deal would probably hinge on Tyler Myers because Mike Gillis's world revolves around defensemen. You'd probably also be looking at getting Ballard back as a cap dump to take the edge off Vanek's contract. All in all it gets very yucky, Gillis would have to be absolutely enamoured with Vanek.

Are you telling me H. Sedin was the only western conference player to break 80 points? Correct me if I'm wrong, he had 81 this year, right? If true, that's crazy. Not a single PPG player in the west?

The Sabres could use a player like Mason Raymond.
