Revenue being number one, also:

-Long term contracts that are front loaded (Kovalchuk, Datsyuk, Luongo, Erhoff, Richards, etc.)

-Dumping players in the minors, UFA and RFA Rights

-Realignment; Board of Governors wants to pass it but the NHLPA is on the same side as the fan, thinks the new format is unfair and wants it modified.

-Travel issues for West Coast Teams

The realignment was probably just turned down just so they can use it as a bargaining chip during the CBA talks. It will eventually get accepted.

No way they lockout the whole season. I just can't see it. That would be most likely the end to the NHL. Two lockouts in under a decade would destroy it. I can see games starting possibly a little later, however.

When are talks suppose to start?

I remember Dubi who is the player rep saying how it needed to be modified how the playoff structure wasn't really fair.

It's a horrible and backwards idea and will really hurt certain teams like Carolina who will always have to go up against teams that can outspend them and have more resources.

The Rangers Division would be the hardest in hockey by far.

The NHLPA Only rejected the new division format so they can use it as a bargaining chip. The NHL will use the olympics the same way..

But imo they should extend the current CBA by another year and really see what the new TV Deal does to the Economics of the NHL.

The deal already went into the economics of the NHL. They already made money from it. Also, they raised the cap last year because of the new TV deal.

it was not taken into account for this years salary cap. it was pretty well documented that this was not the case. i'll try and dig something up at lunch.

It boggles the mind that there would be another lockout. Is this going to be an every 8 year thing? What a joke. Get in a room and get an agreement done before the season starts. Bunch of babies.

If we lose Traverse City I'm gonna be upset, I look forward to that all year.

Then again, I'll settle for just having season at this point. 2004-05 was the worst thing that ever happened to me. I was dead inside that whole season. This sport is my drug.

Andrew Gross ‏@AGrossRecord
Asked whether NHLPA would extend a 24-percent rollback again, Don Fehr responds by asking whether reporter wants Fehr to lose his job.

$3.3B in revenue. Using same formula and assuming it remains the same, the upper limit is $64.175M with the PA taking a cut to 50% from 57%. PA has a 5% bump.

$72M upper limit. $3.3B. 57%.

Seriously? The NHL might as well just determine what $64.3m represents on current revenue and make that the current split. (approx 51%). Reduce it to 50% the next season and the Cap will still go up in 2013.

Former NHLPA head thinks it’s “too early” to worry about lockout

-Thinks that the NHL (owners) really want to rework (some) part of the CBA, not start from scratch.

-Thinks that 8-12 teams would have much lower salary payouts (if there wasn't as high a floor).

-Thinks that players are in good hands with Fehr and Schneider.

Linden says lock-out... but a short one
Quote:
I would not be surprised if it would last a few months. The owners, in particular in American clubs hold in October-November, really difficult few months
Just in time for Gabby to come back! gahh please no lockout!

If I had to say, I'd say the leagues locked out until December. No reasoning, just a hunch that I have based off everything I've heard and read about the situation.

don't think there will be one.

owners will get players to take 50 to 53 % of revenue depending on amount of revenue generated, with a better revenue sharing program. that is going to be the key in all of this.

if they can figure a way to get more centralized league revenue to distribute it to the smaller market teams, it becomes easier for those smaller market teams to come close to breaking even during the regular season. how they come up with that formula i dont know.

realignment and travel concerns will be part of this as well. i dont think it will be as bad as people think it will be.
