Sean Avery-Difference Maker?

Do you think he could of been the difference in the series?
Seems like the two players (Broduer & Kovalchuk) that played pretty well
he has taken off their games in the past.Did not make sense to let him go early

No absolutely not he would have played like 3 minutes a game and been penalized every time

This team would exhaust all of what little scoring prowess they had in this series as soon as they netted 3.

Sean Avery would not have been the answer.

Of course Sean Avery is the difference maker. If he plays, the Rangers take the Devils in 5 max, and the Kings are toast. LDO

avery was an important part of this team and the playoffs are the best time of year to have him. refs don't love the guy, but he gets in guys heads and could actually play decent hockey, but for whatever reason he was sent down and that was it for him.

i was all for him before he was sent to the minors; however, he made a stupid choice by disrespecting the team (whale coaches) when he was sent down and regardless good riddance.

Avery would have scored 35 goals in the Devils series and made Brodeur cry.

That is why so many teams got in a bidding war for him.

That ship sailed a very long time ago; the Devils are just bigger, grittier, tougher and have way more offensive firepower than us not to mention a top 5 all time hall of fame defenseman coaching the defense and a future hall of famer all time great set up guy coaching the power play; tough to swallow but all true!

Let go of the Sean Avery nonsense already.

Avery wouldn't have lead the team in scoring in the series, nor would he have been effective on the power play like he was circa 2008, but the OP does bring up a good point. Avery was Brodeurs biggest enemy, we all know that, but he was also Kovalchuk's biggest enemy in the 2007 series against Atlanta. Hard to say how it would have played out with the Torts leash around his neck, but if he was set free and was able to straddle the line (not likely) or at the very least, take a Devil with him every time he got a penalty he may have made a difference.
I personally think he would have gotten Brodeur and Kovalchuk off their games, that could have been the difference between losing the series in 6 and winning the series period

hes gone out of the organization and the league. he would have made us worse. sometimes it seems the avery fans are not ranger fans. the guy is gone you can all go watch him over in sweden or russia wherever the hell he is if hes still playing

Sean Avery quit hockey because he is working on the cure for Aids, followed shortly thereafter by a cure for Cancer.

My bad-- I forgot Christensen was better than Avery.

either way. nice job reading into things that had no alternative meaning.

By the way, Christensen did not play against the Devils.

Some fans like useless self-destructive players.

If Avery had gone in to shine somewhere there would be a discussion worth having, but he imploded.

I'm guessing he has some mental issues or internal demons, because he had an NHL caliber toolset but was unable to remain mentally stable.

Just when you think the Del Zotto thread is the stupidest you've ever read this one comes along.

Avery is a difference maker, with him we were consistent bubble team fighting for 7th or 8th seed and with out him we were the 1 seed.

Anyone not seeing a difference there is blind

Something tells me that if I abandon the internet for 10 years, then return, I will find an active "Would Avery make a difference " thread. By then, he should be starring in "Fashion for Seniors" magazines. Sheesh.

If Avery was allowed to be Avery he could have been very important in the Ott series and NJD series..but he could also be costly, all depends..I always liked avery...
