He certainly shouldn't be in the top 4 of a team like Chicago which is not only a playoff team, but a team that should be contending (with a few additions).

I would agree with the Hawks fans that aren't too happy about this signing. Oduya on their 3rd pair at cheap hit would be ok. Oduya on the 2nd pair eating up 3.375 is not what I would want if I was a fan of a team that I thought was a cup contender.

Oduya should not be on the 2nd pair of a cup contender.
Exactly. This is just horrible.

Awful. What is Bowman thinking? Wouldn't have paid him a penny over 2 million, and that's pushing it. He's barely slightly above average in all facets of the game. It's not like he has a specific strength that he's great that you could attempt to warrant this kind of deal for.

Oduya enjoy watching turnovers cost your team in the playoffs?

I like the bottom 2 better!
Frolik's cap hit is 2.3M and I like him being only Hawks to show up for playoffs for last 2 years (Along with Bickell surprisingly)

Frolik again showed the potential that exists when used properly and with his actual salary so low (2.1M and 1.9M) wont surprise me to see Hawks keep him another year and see if he can get back on track

He only just turned 24 ,, Stalberg just put together a good year at 26 so no reason that Frolik cant get his career back on track

I guess he's just following Dale's super-amazing team building philosophy of tank and pick 3rd and 1st. I applaud this signing for getting McKinnon and the top 2014 draft prospect into Hawks jerseys.

In fairness to him, Oduya was no Campoli.

He was just a small part of the much bigger problem (notably, weak defensive play and next to no genuine grit), which is why so many Hawk fans are angry about this signing.

Don't let any of the fans that expected a dynasty after 2010 know that

Other fans of the league tell me what you think of this Defensive Core 1-6

Keith-Seabrook
Leddy-Oduya
Montador-Hjalmarsson

Not the best but I think it's deep at least and gives the option to roll out three solid pairings. Montador played about 5 minutes after acquiring Oduya so they never had a chance to roll all six of them last year.

If this is what he gets for resigning, I wonder what Oduya would have asked for on the market?

A lot of people are crying 'overpayment'. But I'm not sure they are crunching the numbers. The Salary Cap continues to rise every year. It is heading towards double what it was a few years ago.

2006 - 39 million
2012 - 70 ish million

a $4 million contract in
2006 = 10.24% of cap
2012 = 5.71% of cap

Prices are going up, Ville "25 point" Leino is at 4.5/year for 6 years.

Oduyo is a solid defenseman, and he took a discount. Fans are unreasonable when it comes to these types of things.

I personally would take 4/6 on your D the 2 I don'y want are the guy you just paid 3.3 million to and Montador. The only reason I don't take Oduya is because we already have Komi

Could be worse, right? He absolutely must trade Hjalmarsson now though or it's not working so much. Individually Oduya, Hjalmarsson and Leddy are far from the worst, but as a group it's getting hard forming some kind of effective second pairing out of them.

So instead of Brian Campbell's $7.1M for a good top pairing dman we have $6.5M in Olesz and Oduya, a career minor leaguer and a bottom pairing dman.

Oh and we lost a 2nd and 3rd round pick. Can the Bowman defenders explain how this solves our cap problem or improves the team? Or are there any left?

even if the cap goes down slightly this year it'll be back up in a year or 2 no matter what the split is revaneau (sp?) are on the rise which means the cap will be as well.

Also what makes you think there will be a CBA fight this doesn't feel like 2004 to me at all I don't think we will miss a season if we miss any time at all

Lol, I was trying to make a lame pun. But yeah, every off season players get signed for more and more as the cap goes up, so I don't think this is that terrible.

Keith - Seabrook
Hjalmarsson - Leddy
Oduya - Montador
Olsen

I like this D going into next season. Hope Bowman won't trade Hjalmarsson

So even IF bowman signs Suter, that means Hammer has to be traded.

Bowman hasn't made a move that I've liked in over a year now.
