Who wants Jiri Hudler?

Hudler is not going to resign with Detroit. So there might be some interest of several teams .

Blue Jackets have top six openings! (When don't we?)

I could see Bowman offering him 4 years/18M to be the 2nd line center.

His name hasn't really come up much in Canes speculation, but I could see him a fit in Carolina.

Hudler isn't a C.

Exactly, that's why it fits so well as a Bowman move. Add a bloated contract and you've nailed it.

Can you provide a link with him saying this or Holland saying he won't be re-signed.

According to his agent Jiri is not going resign with Red Wings because of salary cap.

Holland has to open up a roster spot for Parise.

That's not what the article says. It says it's uncertain whether Red Wings re-sign him (because of the possible rise of the salary cap) and that they have offers from elsewhere. Hudler staying in Detroit is one of the possibilities according to Maršoun (Hudler's agent).

I don't see him commanding a kings ransom, but I'm sure as the big names dry up, someone will offer him far more then he's worth. If the bad happens, I'd say a Leino-esque contract, maybe from Columbus, maybe from...well, anyone. I'd say if he got 3-3.5 he'd be a fine contributor, but more is asking for trouble.

Why did he end up going to the KHL for one year?

Used a translator on the artical and it comes out a bit strange but i seem to get out of it that he will resign with the Wings and something about a 500.000 raise which he would be happy with. Maybe someone who speaks the language can verify what it says.

I could handle him on the Pens for this on a 1-2 yr deal. As long as your expectations are that he's a 2nd line winger, and pay him accordingly, then there shouldn't be an issue.

It says the Wings have offered him a 500.000 raise (according to "mlive.com"). His agent is not 100 % sure they will re-sign him though - a lot will depend on the planned salary cap rise and Detroit's moves on the free-agent market. He says Hudler also has offers from other clubs.

I'm thinking Hudler believes he's worth Ville Leino money. Granted, Leino's overpayed, but Hudler's not worth that money.

He'd have to go through a Dupuis transformation to fit, IMO. He's semi-allergic to hitting and hard forechecking.

there's only two reasons Hudler wouldn't resign with the Wings

he tests the market and gets a ridiculous contract offer from someone else

OR

the Wings do something crazy and highly unlikely like get both Parise and Suter and have to get rid of him to even have cap room

either way he's going to be testing the market unless the Wings are able to get a good deal and decide to re-sign him before July 1st so he has pretty much zero trade value

Isn't that tampering? Holland will let him go because they are going balls out for Parise. Hopefully Holland can get a draft pick for his rights.

Maybe he was referring to European teams?

I'd take him in Tampa Bay. There are a few young guys in play for a top 6 spot, but grabbing Hudler would allow us to develop the youngins a bit more, or to trade one of the likely top 6 forwards (Malone or Connolly most likely) in a package for that elusive franchise goalie.

Plus that Yzerman-Detroit connection can't be denied...

That was my first thought. Otherwise it's tampering for sure.
