Bruins Sign Goaltender Niklas Svedberg

It's official.

Bruins signed him to an entry level contract. Expected to play in Providence (AHL).

Thomas pretty much gone. Rask/Khudobin (Borat) in Boston and Svedberg/Hutchinson in Providence. They also have Morrison from the WHL signed too.

I don't see it that way at all. The Bruins aren't high on Hutchinson, not for the NHL or the AHL. I think it's more likely Hutchinson is on his way out of the system.

So signing a goalie prospect to a two-way contract means that the Bruins are trading the reigning Vezina winner?

Bravo HFBoards. Bravo.

Yea, don't get this either. They've been pretty weak at goaltending depth for a while now.

I mean, it might point to him being moved, but it doesn't mean it's sure to happen.

How does this mean Thomas is going anywhere? Could happen but Svedberg isn't the signing that's going to make it happen.

The B's goalie depth now looks like this:

Thomas
Rask
Khubodin/Svedberg

Sure they could roll with that for awesome depth, but interpreting the acquisition as a sign of future moves isn't very far-fetched

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that two years ago, Thomas and Luongo were considered the best goalies in the world and were both within a game of winning the Stanley cup, and now they're both likely to be dealt?

Oh, the irony.

Actually, that would have been one year ago.

They might just aswell put one of Svedberg or Hutchinson in the ECHL.. Why on earth get rid of a goalie tandem like that because of a signed undraftee.. Enjoy the depth as long as possible.

Last time this happened Thomas responded with arguably the best season for a goalie of all time.

If, and it's a big if, Thomas gets moved, it sure as heck won't be to a division rival (Leafs) or to a lesser extent conference rival (Bolts); at least not if the Bruins GM (or any sane person) can help it.

We cant trade Thomas till July 1st because of his NTC. He could wave that though to be moved at the draft right.

Khudobin and Svedberg have a combined 7 games of NHL experience. People are way overreacting to the Bruins' new "depth."

Division rival, I can understand. But do you think the Bruins really care about trading Thomas within the Conference? I remember reading about how Thomas was traded to the Caps but he nixed the deal. I don't think Bruins management care about intra-conference trading.

Obviously, but for it to happen to both of them the same season?

You can never have to many goalie prospects. I really don't see this as a sign TT is gonna be traded.

As a side note, it's weird to think of TT in a Bolts sweater... and it's even weirder to think of him as a Leaf.

I don't even buy the Division rival thing in this case as Both teams have made big deals in the past with the Kessel and Kaberle deals.

I don't think being in the northeast would stand in the way

Big difference is that while Kessel might be a 'game breaker', Thomas can still win a series (or many playoff rounds) by himself.

Which is why I said "to a lesser extent". IMHO, Thomas hasn't shown signs of declining & it would make sense you want to face him as late as possible in the playoffs.
