Well folks, this is the stuff that Cup dreams are made of. You can always look back to any team's Cup run and pick out those moments when it could have went the other way.

1995:

Game 4 Boston - Tied 0-0 in OT. If McKay doesn't have one of the greatest goal celebrations, NJ heads back to Boston tied at 2.

Game 2 Penguins - Pitt is already up 1 - 0. Late in the third, Stevens goes backhand and starts off what would turn into a 6 game winning streak.

Game 5 Philly - Losers of 2 straight and tied late in the third. Lemieux cements the Con Smythe and calms the fears of a second consecutive blown chance at the Cup.

2000:

Philly Games 5 - 7 Three straight elimination game wins. Enough said.

2003:

Tampa Game 4 - Scott Steven comes back from a puck to the head which would eventually wind up ending his career, but nt before a heroic performance in game 4 to help NJ put a stranglehold on the series. Never mind the critical moments that would occurr vs Ottawa in the Conference Final. Where is that 03 team if Stevens was lost after game 3?

Which brings us to today. One team in this year's Final has overcome quite a few gut check moments. The other has not. It's never a good time to start learning in the Final.

Carrying over from the other thread if we don't re sign the whole 4th line again then yes I agree. Bring up Zharkov. **** the goons. No reason to play Boulton all those games next year like he was this year. I think Pete KNOWS that now, and I'm confident he won't go back to them.

Marty on a lockout, and retirement. If there is another lockout that lasts a whole season then seriously GTFO to Bettman! He's should step down. 3 times in how many years since he's been in charge of running things?

If it's a half season thing, and we have Marty contracted he would come back I believe just so he don't leave us hanging. There won't be any other choice in net or any other options, and all the UFA's will have been picked up. This is if it goes to January or something like the one in 95. If it's a year long one like 04/05 then adios. It's like Scott Stevens, and just like he says if there is a long lockout like the last time we won't be seeing him back.

We have been witnessing a very rare transformation. Not a ton of established stars go through something like that.

If that's true, no wonder they did so poorly with maclean.

The first thing I did when the Devils won game 2 of the Philly series was yell "SUCK IT ROENICK" at my TV when his mug appeared. Felt good.

One of the big reasons we did so poorly with Mac was because he did not allow the defensemen to leave the blue line in the offensive zone, no pinching at all that we saw a bit under Lemaire and a ton more so, so far with DeBoer and for other teams it was a 5 on 3 in our offensive zone and they got out of the zone with ease

Multiple players have come out and said nobody knew where one another was going to be on the ice and that adds to the mayhem

Thats all in the past though and it helped this organization realize changes were necessary and here we are today, 4 wins from a Stanley Cup

I remember going to that game when Kovy was benched. We got spanked by Buffalo on our home ice. Yikes, the dark days...

He was an incompetent idiot of a coach, and each win, and accomplishment this team makes my shred of respect for him as a coach dissolves into almost nothing. He was the WORST coach I've EVER seen in the NHL. Any team that turns around into a championship caliber team within 2 weeks of a coaches dismissal means that coach sucks. Especially when we won the division the year before, and are in the cup finals the year after. And that's how we played a few weeks after he was gone. EXACTLY how we played. Like a championship team last year especially after Langenbrunner left, and got on the plane. I never wanna see him in Jersey coaching again. Let's be serious he wasn't that good of an assistant coach either. Our PP sucked for years with him. I will cheer for him if they honor the 95 cup team, and loved him as a player, but his incompetency coaching us has soured me with him. We're in the finals now so I forgive him, but damn was he an idiot.

Well ostensibly it was because he was late to meetings, or at least that was the reason given...but that doesn't mesh with the Kovy that we saw under Lemaire and DeBoer though (in terms of being a team guy and willing to listen to the coach) so it could be horse****, who knows. That feels like so long ago now.

Maclean singled Kovy out more than anyone in interviews. Don't get me wrong he was HORRIBLE but he was good at that time? Occasionally Elias, Arnott, and Tedenby were good, and Marty could steal us a game once in a while, and Moose was good too for a stretch there.

Man that team was a disaster. Maclean was a great press conference though.

''Ya know the team was horrible ya know, I could have benched 10 guys ya know, I wish I could give you an answer why we weren't ya know ready to play ya know, but I can't.''

When Maclean was fired didn't Kovy say something like

''Don't worry I'm not the reason he was fired''? LOL!

I'm 22 and wear my hood + hat like that sometimes

Am I the only one who doesn't think it's a big deal?

Media day is just a bunch of reporters asking general questions and/or trying to trick players into saying something stupid. Usually filled with a lot of cliches and compliments to the other team.

Roenick is a fool. He may have been a good player and a good interview, but he most certainly is not a good analyst.

MacLean just didn't adjust and was stuck with the pre-lockout coaching mentality disguised as a "new system". Plus he probably tried to establish his authority knowing well how some of the vets here have been coach killers, and with Kovy being the new kid he tried making him his whipping boy. Who knows, if he changes and learns from his mistakes he might make a decent coach one day, but doubt he'll get the chance.

I don't hate him because as much as last season was painful to endure, that one bad season lead to a nice high pick and many big changes. Now, imagine being fans of the Jackets or the Oilers or Isles, whose management just doesn't get it. Unless who ever takes over for Lou eventually completely screws things up, last year should be a hiccup in the long, successful run of this franchise.

He's Ricky Williams apparently. Surprised he didn't use his facemask Knowing a lot of shy people who are mortified to speak in public, I understand. I don't condone it, especially when you are a high profile athlete but I understand.
