That kind of investment...I dunno I would want some sure fire success before I pushed my chips in.
They have hit high. To us as fans, winning the cup is the ultimate high, but how much exposure do you get AFTER winning the cup? Some, you get a big ass parade, but that's about it. Your time on national TV is done and the players disappear to go celebrate their own way. The time of largest exposure is the week or two during the Stanley Cup finals, that's when there will be a million cameras and tv crews following the team, we will be broadcast around the world and the Kings will be the centre of the universe.

Not to mention how far off the attention will fall if we DON'T win the cup.

This is the time to gauge interest IMO.

Buy low, sell high. Now is the PERFECT time to sell.

In his state of the game press conference, Gary Bettman addressed the NY Post rumor of the Kings being available for sale. He stated that the rumor is not true (and also mentioned Leiweke denying that the rumor is true as well).

I also don't believe this other upcoming announcement relating to the Kings has anything to do with Gretzky.

I got an email today saying that for every Premiere Seat I purchase for next season that AEG will give me two tickets to a game in the Stanley Cup Final.

There's your big announcement.

I was giving this some thought though. Anyone think that Bob Miller might announce that he is retiring?

The team has been struggling for two decades and finally has this Cinderella run to the finals. Technically their value is at its highest at the moment, and they have a lot of assets, hundreds of millions, signed long term. To be honest, this is a very opportunistic time to sell from a business standpoint. Not sure I buy into the rumor, but I won't deny that this would be a good time to sell the team if AEG was looking to.

It was completely shot down during the Bettman press conference today. Slow newsday for the NY Post I'm guessing.

As for the major announcement, my guess is:

1.Farmers field get's the go ahead with the Kings playing a game indoors.
2.AEG will start their own tv network that will carry all Lakers-Kings games, once and for all giving FSW crappy production the boot.
3.The Kings will be moving the Manchester Monarchs out west.
4.Staples hotdogs will be replaced with Dodger dogs!

Rich Hammond reports that Aunshutz's wife is a big Kings fan and that Leiweke was pissed about this story.

Kings are not for sale.

That's a hell of a present to get your wife; a hockey team. I think I'm awesome if I get a dozen roses

Nothing against the report (link would be nice) but I don't put much stock in those things. That's all Lieweke can say. He's not going to come out in the middle of the Cup finals and tell the world LA is up for the highest bidder or that they've been sold. Of course he'll deny it.

If he were, I doubt he would announce it during the middle of the SCF.

At the same time, I don't think it's fair to assume since the NY Post reported it, that it would be true. In fact, the Post is known more for it's inaccurate rumors more than it's factual content. It's a tabloid for a reason. If the NY Times had printed it, I'd be more inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt, but not the Post.

THIS is true. Don't worry Kings fans. Mr Anshutz is a Kings owner for the next decades... Most people here want to hear more from him but he is the guy who doesn't like to interferer despite losing money (yes partly due to Staples costs which are crazy high) and will write the checks which is the most an owner should/can do. Look at the Kings spending and Kings coverage the past few years. Very solid for a southern team...
Heck just acquiring Richards/Carter and resigning Mitchell/Doughty & co cost Phillip & Tim a fortune...

If there are complaints to be maid, there are definitely not for the ownership that is willing to spend to build the winner.

Just sayin'

Whatever the announcement is, it isn't going to be anything stupid or distracting. If it was, they'd wait. It would probably be more good news, unless it's Blake getting his jersey retired, which would be dumb (but not distracting).

100% agree. NY Post is getting to be terrible.

Yeah, I don't think any legit Kings fan right now is considering Blake's jersey retirement (which I don't think should happen at all IMO) is a good news item Maybe in a few years, not right now.

Yeah, if posts are getting deleted under the 'jinx' theory, it should stop. We aren't in the locker room or e-mailing stuff to the players, what happens here won't affect anything in the game.

"Since the question/topic comes up from time to time, some folks might be interested to know that Kings owner Philip Anschutz and his wife, Nancy, attended last night’s game. I’m not sure if this is commonly known or not, but Mrs. Anschutz is an intense Kings fan."

http://lakingsinsider.com/2012/05/31...als-aftermath/

Anyone who is married knows... if the wife's happy, everyone's happy.

I learned a few years ago that Nancy is a huge Kings fan, and that's the last time I took any rumor about the Kings being for sale seriously.

Could this be the big news we were all waiting to hear? If so, I am filled with joy!
http://www.latimes.com/sports/sports...r&dlvrit=53285

Hoping the Kings release a blu-ray set with Bob Miller calling the Cup clinching game (should they win it).
