Their owner wants Homer to focus on D.
I hope they sign Suter and make JVR available. (to us)

If that's not an option throw 3mil at Kuba with 2mil of bonuses.
I don't think Gonch is going anywhere, unless a defender of similar calibre is going back to Ottawa. Kuba is more likely to leave via FA and I'd be perfectly happy with him ending up in Edmonton. Could be a solid second pairing puck-mover for us.

I'd be interested in Meszaros if he's healthy and available. Depends on the price too.

Good physical player, blocks shots, young at 26, ability to play in all situations, and can also put up 30 points a year.

They could get a lot of cap relief by putting Pronger on LTIR.

If he retires, though, there goes that.

I would be interested. Philly wants cap space, I'd be happy to give it to them by taking a few of their players off their hands. Haha
What would the asking price be?

This offseason is going to be crazy if all three Pronger/Lidstrom/Selanne retire.

Yep... plenty of demand and little quality supply... seller's market in the UFA sweepstakes again.

Maybe the Oduya contract was an overpayment but also an early sign that any decent UFA players are in for an even bigger windfall this summer.

Tell that to everyone that hates the Hemsky deal.

1. Coach- I would hire either Krueger or Arneil. I think both could get this team going offensively and get systems in place to get the kids doing what they do best. Either or I would be extremely happy about.

2.Draft Pick- I think you have to take Yakupov. If you could get a good return I could see moving down and getting either Reily or Galy but the offer would have to be substantial and I dont see that happening.

3. 3 Moves- Sign the all but obvious Schultz, if he goes elsewhere make a big pitch for Mcbain
Trade Gags or MP or Omark or Whitney or all 4 with prospects/picks for Stewart to get some size in the top 6 and move Hall to center
Sign either Jackman or Allen as a good 5th/6th dman
I know he said only 3 but as a 4th move I would put Harti on the 3rd line and keep MP and Lander and Pitlick if there all still with us in the AHL for a full year
4. Captains- I would rotate assistant captains between
Whitney, Smid, Hall and Eberle and see who really emerges as the true leader

My lines would be

Stewart RNH Eberle
Hemsky Hall Yakupov
Harti Horcoff Jones
Eager Belanger Petrell

Smid Petry
J Schultz/Mcbain N Schultz
Allen/Jackman Whitney
Sutton

Dubi
Khaby

I would give anything for Stewart, but I can't see St. Louis giving him up unless we pack up MPS and some top-tier prospects for him. He's a pretty valuable commodity.

Here's a radical idea:
Trade for Hjalmarsson
Trade for Meszaros
If you can only acquire one, sign Kuba
Ditch Peckham and other forms of defensive deadweight.
Smid Petry
Hjalmarsson Meszaros
Whitney Schultz
Potter Sutton

They're very different but very solid.
Short contracts givs room for the Oklahoma defenders to prove their ability.

Too radical?

1. Coach: I have no idea. I don't know NHL coaches all too well, and I certainly don't know any of the dark horse candidates well. I'm glad it's not my decision to make.

2. Draft Pick: Yakupov. Easily.

3. Three Moves: Sign Justin Schultz, sign Dustin Penner, and sign Jason Garrison. I'd imagine (and hope) you could sign both of the latter two to three-year deals, Penner around $3 million per year and Garrison around $4 million. No long-term cap implications, no loss of assets, and should be enough at least for 10th-12th in the West.

Hall-Nugent Hopkins-Eberle
Penner-Gagner-Yakupov
Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky
Jones-Belanger-Hartikainen

Smid-Petry
Whitney-Garrison
Schultz-Schultz

Dubnyk
Khabibulin

Why is the concept of signing Dustin Penner gaining steam again? He's had a decent playoffs, but was virtually invisbile during the regular season. Sounds familiar to how he was here barring one half of a season?

Don't let the playoffs fool you into thinking he's anything more than he is. He had 17 pts in 67 games for the Kings in the regular season. He scores an OT winner and now he's a wanted commodity? Get real.

Probably because we are a small team that is weak on the left wing and we struggle to score goals. Penner is a big left winger who scored 32 and 21 (on pace for 27) goals in his last two seasons here.

He fits our team very well, might be easier to sign because of his history here and might not cost too much because of his season in LA.

I'm honestly not signing him just because he's big. He floated his ass around here for close to four seasons and for someone who's big, he's not exactly a physical force either.
