Op, you forgot to say that they also changed the ruling how the team that will drop to 1-division will be decided. Both groups' 5th placed teams face each other in a best of 3 series. Very nice change too.

It felt like Sweden benefited a lot this year in U-20 of this in the semifinal against Finland when Finland had to play in back to back days. Also I was disappointed that because of the number of games Sweden didn't have to play any North-American team that tournament. So chances that this will happen again will be reduced when there's 1 more game for the group winners.

Sweden did great in the finals tho, so not trying to take anything away from them and Finland would've only taken that usual silver in the finals anyways.

the bad thing about this is that 4 teams will play only 5 games.

They should eliminate quarter-finals, too. It's stupid that 8 of 10 teams make to best-of-one playoffs. I'd vote for a system where two best teams from each group would advance to semi-finals. There's no enough good teams in this marginal sport to have sensible quarter-finals in this kind of age-group tournament. There's no eight top level teams in olympics or WHC, let alone some WJC.

I dislike this - it makes the group stage less meaningful, and perhaps even creates more opportunity for tactical losses.

Tactical losses =/= running up the score on smaller countries
