Colin Fraser has scored one more important goal than Smyth has all season. Imagine that. Thanks Tambellini.

I just assumed the Beryl was out there, messing with Jersey like the rest of the East Coast. But it seems like bad ice has been a factor in the playoff rounds - sometimes in unexpected places. The fact the Kings did so well is a huge testament to their skill set.

As for me, I was on the phone with my big brother and I squealed like a tween meeting Justin Timberlake circa 2000. I paused the conversation to watch Kopitar kick major butt. I kept babbling to him and he's so completely uninterested in hockey but he let me babble. He called right when OT started.

Ok, what the hell did I just see?

Driving home from Hollywood after the game, 5 north, looked over to the hills of Griffith park, and there in what looked like huge green laser, projected on the mountain, were the words "3 more to go!"

WHAAAAAATTTTT????

I would say the bandwagon is pretty much standing room only now.

Richards line exposed again (Goddamit, Carter!), Kopitar line contained, otherwise Kings were in control of possession and chances,

And Kopitar's undressing of Brodeur. Man oh man.

On the plus side, it was matched by Kovalchuk and his line being completely invisible. The second line certainly has to play better, but as does everyone else on the roster. Aside from the OT goal, Kopi's line was also largely ineffective. But like I said on the main playoffs board, you don't win based on style points.

Kopitar is a good player.

When the fourth line is your best line, you didn't play very well. Sure wish gagne was on the wing with Nolan and Fraser.
It was 89 with high humidity. Dustin Brown was quoted after the game that the puck was bouncing like a tennis ball.

I liked that Kovalchuk was contained, Parise dumped and played physical against and Dougthy and Quick were on fire.
I kind of expected Kings to be a bit rusty and good on them winning game 1 in spite of it. I hope they will be better next game and do quick work on Devils. Here is to good guys. Go Kings!

Good thing the Kings are used to playing on crappy ice. Advantage Kings in that respect.

I better not hear anything how Staples Center ice sucks after watching this ****** ice tonight. New Jersey's ice has been ridiculed for years now...now I see why, first-hand.

It's the NHL's own greedy fault. What do you expect when you play ice hockey in JUNE?

Oh, no doubt. Winning is relative.

Despite the lack of style, the geek stats will show an edge to the Kings. And a fairly substantial one.

Over seven games... the meat and speed will win out.

(That said, Kovalchuk, while invisible, showed why he's paid. That guy cannot be lined up for a check. Moves awfully well for a big man.)

I assume they need more dehumidifiers - probably having the doors open for the fans to enter really gets the ice bad.

I read (I am looking for an actual fact to link to...) that LA's humidity is slowly going up because of the plant a tree movement. I myself have noticed several times recently the humidity being higher then it felt like in the past.

Of course I am old and crazy so take it as you want.

Any one remember when Vancouver was still playing the Kings? Wow that was a long time ago.
Good point!!

Brodeur made a good move to kick up his leg - he almost made the save as shooters usually go high w/ that shot. Anze is just awesome to put the puck low.

Devils didn't really play their type of game against us tonight, if they think they're going to bang us around all series then this will be quicker than it should be. Our young big bodies are going to outlast them if that's what they want to play.

Maybe Devils fans will acknowledge that the Kings actually do, indeed, have a good fourth line too.
