Nobody. They may sign people to replace him, but the answer is nobody. Suter's game would have been an amazing compliment, but it cannot replace him.

I'm not sure if the Red Wings can stay an elite team without Lidstrom. Then again, people probably said the same thing about Yzerman.

Ian White's mustache.

Seriously though...Wings are getting to the point where some of their big horses are going out to pasture and if they haven't yet, they should be soon. Lidstrom is the next one after Osgood and Rafalski. After that, who knows.

Suter could be re-signing in Nashville (hope he does). If that happens, Detroit then has to go out and make a big trade to acquire a defenseman, either a young one that a team can spare and pwn the wings for a great return as well or something else.

I also hope they can't find anyone.

Well it would help if they started drafting better defensemen, let's be real here, unless DRW is able to hit a jackpot in free agency this year, their decline will continue, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Holmstrom all a year older, a defense that is now suspect to say the least after Kronwall, it's time for Smith and Kindl to step up.

Luckily for them they have an owner who will spend money, so Suter to DRW seems logical but he's not Shea Weber by any means

Real talk it'd be Suter and maybe Wideman as a secondary PMD under White? Admittedly I don't know much about Red Wings but yeah adding one or two blueliners wouldn't be bad.

Better choice would be signign Suter for as good of a contract then try to head out and offersheet Erik Johnson off the Avs.
Are you retarded?

Colorado has more cap space than just about any team in the league. There is zero chance any of our players receive offer sheets. Besides the fact that Colorado will be gunning for Suter just the same as Detroit.

Sign Suter and sign a couple of 2nd line forwards.

Thing is the Lightning need a number 1 defensemen really ****ing badly. If he lands Suter, hes signing him. Don't get your hopes up.

Agreed. There is no way Colorado doesn't protect their assets. Although an offersheet from Detroit would be a good way to start the rivalry again.

If they don't get one of the big free agents this year I don't think they'll make the playoffs

It's impossible to replace arguably one of the top 3 d-men ever. The Red Wings can sign Suter or someone else, but no can will be like Lidstrom, period.

You can't replace him, Suter is the likeliest way to fill the role.

Suter.

That said, you can never replace Nik Lidstrom.

Wings will be fine...

Illitch is all about winning and he never cuts corners financially.

How many HoF players have retired from the Wings in the past 10 years? Just tougher in a much more equal league now with the cap.

I see them signing Suter (75% chance) for 6.5-7m and Semin (45% chance) for 5.5m but can't see them signing Parise. Semin and Datsyuk looked sick together in the recent tourney and I think Semin either goes with the Wings or goes KHL

Is there any chance the Wings could get Weber instead of Suter?

Im guessing the asking price would be huge.

They become the team to offer Matt Carle $5m p/y. Giving them a puck mover and giving Philly capspace win/win

Everyone seems too think Suter is a lock to end up there, but I can honestly see him on the Flyers and with the uncertainty in Pronger's career I believe Holmgren will make a play for his rights. Nashville does have a history of trading with the Flyers (Hartnell, Timonen, Forsberg and Upshall).

As for Detroit, I can see them go for someone like Wideman, Carle, Rozsival and even add a young prospect like Justin Schultz.

Another possibility that may present itself is Enstrom, but I don't know if the Red Wings and Jets make good trade partners or can come to a mutual agreement. Enstrom would likely re-sign with the Red Wings and the style of game they play would be perfect for him.

Go for Parise this offseason, and a 3rd line center. Maybe even attempt an offer at Semin. Next off season trade for the 1st overall and draft Jones.

Kenny: I'd like to announce that we have signed a top 9 forward in Helm, and a top 4 defenseman in Quincey. With the additions of Smith and Nyquist it's like adding another top 6 forward and defensemen. We believe with this team we can make a push for the cup again.

Seriously though, Suter won't solve our problems. We can't sign 2 players and expect to win the cup.

I would like to see Tatar, Smith, and Nyquist get full time positions. We need to get young and fast. Our age has been showing with the injuries that have caused us 3 early playoff exits.
