Serious question. Name 1 reason please.
Because they borrowed money from the league this past season to make payroll and they may not be able to afford 120 million between two players over the next 6 years.

1- Newark
2- Money
3- Brodeur will retire soon
4- This year's team has gone on a run. Even if they win and resign Parise they are not favorites next year.

Got a kick out of the Jagr to Pittsburgh prediction.

I agree Ray Whitney is a possibility for the Pens. I think that will be a tough deal to put together though. He played so well last year that he can likely get good money on a 1 year deal or a multi-year deal. I don't see the Pens doing either. Probably kills the deal but they'll kick the tires.

I'm also pretty certain Shero will at least kick the tires with Suter. I have no idea how he'd make that work cap-wise. I just don't think he'll be able to resist bidding on him given their history together in Nashville. Just don't see the Pens having the cap room to win that bidding war though.

Hal Gill and Dominic Moore are two Shero favorites as well. I wouldn't be surprised if either or both wind up back in Pittsburgh on cheap one year deals. I don't think Shero will offer more than that to either of them though. Maybe they go elsewhere because of that.

Why would the Islanders want to sign Roloson? We have Nabokov, DiPietro (I know its DiPietro, but still)

We also have younger options like Anders Nilsson, Mikko Koskinen, and Kevin Poulin

No need to throw a 42 year old goalie into the mix

I would think the Sather brass would be interested in looking into discussions with the following FA players to NYR:

Zach Parise - small chance IMO, Rangers cannot swallow another big long term deal without getting rid of one. Winds up in Detroit, Minnesota or stays put.
Shane Doan - probably stays in desert
Ray Whitney - would be great addition on short deal - but not very likely
Ryan Smyth - one year at around 3 M as backup plan to add depth scoring - why not?
Teemu Selänne - pipedream
Brad Boyes - possibly a 3rd option...Big chance
Dustin Penner - nope, Torts would take away his IHOP vouchers
Alexander Semin - hope not, but might happen on a one year deal
PAP - ship has most likely sailed, some bad blood there I believe
Jaromir Jagr - I would hope so aS a great stopgap 3rd line RW alternative - but methinks Sather not interested
David Jones - not really that interested as I believe he might be Chris Higgins 2 and will cost excessive $$$ as FA
Michael Samuelsson - veteran with offensive upside, injury problems say NO
Kristian Huselius - see Michael Samuelsson

Ryan Suter - pipe dream (unless Girardi or Staal + is traded for Bobby Ryan... Then maybe yes). Probably headed to DRW
Jason Garrisson - great shot but their will be suitors driving up $$$, too expensive IMO
Corey Sarich - maybe on a short contract
Hal Gill - see Corey Sarich

Slim pickings to fill NYR needs and stay within cap for reasonable time.

But I could see three possible pickups for The Rangers in FA - if the stars are in alignment:
  • One of Whitney/Smyth/Jagr
  • One of Gaustad/Kelly/Moen/konopka/tootoo ( maybe add the last two if Prust costs too much & walks)
  • One of Sarich/Gil
Elaborate please

LOL, not 1 person has Colorado singing even 1 ufa at this point, even though they will have the most Cap space by a decent margin, and will even HAVE to sign at least 1 person to get above the Cap floor.......

Team with the most cap space(avs) isn't signing anyone surprisingly on anyone's list. Cheap owners they must have :p

For some reason, I can see Smyth leaving Edmonton especially if the rumors of contract talks not going well are true. I can see him end up in Phoenix to be honest.

Not that I think he is going to leave, but if you want reasons, I have a couple.

1- NJ has financial problems. Maybe he thinks if signs a nice extension in NJ, and ownership folds, there is a chance he'd be playing for the Kansas City Devils, or Seattle Devils. Where as he may feel more comfortable with another teams situation.

2- It's going to be hard to get past the Rangers, Penguins, Flyers, Bruins again next year, especially if #30 is in the rafters and not on the ice! Marty can't play until he's 50 can he? Past him, there really isn't much on the depth chart at his position except an also aging Hedberg.

3- What about $$$$$$ What happens if NJ doesn't offer him a contract that is higher than Kovalchuk's? Parise is the captain, and came up through the organization, but doesn't get more than Kovy. I can see him being a little "perplexed". To add to that, what if Detroit comes calling with 9 or 10 mil? Kind of hard to turn that down, especially if they also sign his buddy Suter!

Now, I'm not saying I think he's leaving, but anyone who doesn't see those as legitimate reasons for him to move on are simply deluding themselves.

I'm curious how many teams are going to go all in to get both Parise and Suter. Minnesota? Detroit?

why don't you go back to that post, read down a few before your shake your head. I clearly stated that I said that because I forgot that Nabokov had resigned. Everything you said was already talked about immediately after the post you quoted.

I can see Colorado signing Alexander Semin to a contract for replacing Milan Hejduk down the road. The Avalanche have a lot of RFA contracts to sign, and they could potentially look at giving Semin some money. The Capitals did trade Varlamov to Colorado, and perhaps Colorado could be a destination Semin would consider?

Jason Arnott and the Blues are done. Arnott basically packed his bags and left during the Kings series.

Lol eventually people will read this. It's on every page.

Bryce Salavdor back to the Blues is intriguing. Always hated the trade that sent him away.
