Lidström Retires -- Wings/Avs original rivalry loses another

Hard to see him go... But it's also a sigh of relief. Here's to years of torture he put us through...

Honestly really won't miss him......and I find it odd that we have a tribute thread for a Red Wing player on an Avalanche forum.

I now expect G2P to make a tribute thread for Bertuzzi when he retires.

Brad Stuart, Ian White, and Brendan Smith are probably all better than Quincey.

If you can't respect one of the greatest to play the game, especially on such a rival team, you can hardly call yourself a hockey fan.

I received no bad comments when I made a Demitra thread after he died. I don't see how a retirement of a defender who was an intimate foe of the Avalanche for so long doesn't deserve at least a farewell thread from our classy fans.

You think someone is going to make a bad comment on a thread where someone died? There's no way that is going to happen, it's a bad comparison.

Always liked to watch the guy play.
Hopefully we'll see a new era of the Detroit Red Wings now, one that can't make the playoffs.

Or they'll just replace the franchises greatest dman with Ryan Suter and get a guy that can play 25+min a game. Seems like the only way to stay competitive.

Lidström was great, but I agree that having a farewell thread here is bunk. We were already discussing it in the general hockey thread, not to mention the discussion happening on the main board.

Sorry if you don't like the truth. Since you created the topic though (no surprise) I can't pretend that I didn't see this reaction coming.

You are, of course, free to post 'almost' anything you want (as deemed by HF's lofty standards) but there are better places for said topic:

Yup, might have been a Wing, but theres no denying the level of play he played at for so long. One of the best to ever play the game. Sad to see him go.

IMO he's one of the last of the best years of hockey, late 90's and early 00's. Best hockey was played then IMO. I was around 6-12 those years, and can remember every night trying to stay up late to watch the Avs play, and falling asleep just before it would start. HNIC used to be the best thing to watch.

Heres to one of the best, and of the last of the good old days!

True that it's kinda weird for a Wings player to have his thread on the Avs section,
but he was one of the best in the game and will be remember as one of the greatest player of all time , a true superstar.

But we could always close the thread, if we can't have a civil conversation about him .

Sad to see him leave the game but he had one hell of a career. Are Brodeur and Selanne the last two players from that time?

I would say Iginla to.

When I think of the Late 90s to ealy 00s, I think Sakic, Roy, Blake, Forsberg, Lidstrom, Shannahan, Yzerman, Iginla, Sundin, Curtis Joeseph, Naslund, Madano, Brodeur, Hasek etc.

For me, the only ones left from those days are Iggy, Brodeur, and mayb Elias(to a lesser extent).

Brodeur retires this year if he wins the cup IMO, that'll leave just Iggy really.

If it includes the words "rot in hell" I'll be okay with it.
