Can we trade our 4th line + cash for the Kings' 4th line?

I posted this in another thread predicated on Nick deciding to retire.

Sign Helmer to a new deal.
Say Peace Out to our UFA
I can take or leave Justin Abdelkader

Sign Suter, Parise and Schultz

This next year is a transition year with major changes along with the addition of Gustav Nyquist and Brendan Smith so it could take some time to develop team chemistry. Next year when Jurco and Jarnkrok join the lineup the rebuild is complete.

Then it's World Domination. Again.

Dump Cleary for Prust! Another Dallas Drake is what this team needs. Badly.

Really hope Cleary, Hudler, Homer and Abdelkader are gone.

Bring in Parise, Suter and some grit.

If Parise and Suter make it to FA, the Wings have to get both. With a conservative cap increase....

Wouldn't mind shipping off Abdelkader and Quincey, but I don't see either happening.

This is without Parise. Bigger, tougher, faster line up and better puck possession as well (on paper).

Cleary was sacrificed to make it happen.

^ That would just be a painful season. Five puckmoving D's and Ericsson on the back end. Still relying on Franzen to score our goals. I would be interested in Doan as a third or fourth option and that's it.

If we can't get quality, we might aswell bring in guys from the farm. I'd rather watch Tatar and Mursak than Penner and Hagman.. Rather watch Smith than Garrison. And so on..

Except that Doan will never, ever leave Phoenix as long as they stay there.

We have a team that could play in NHL, but with these contracts we are not reaching the cap floor. So maybe some reinforcements will arrive.

17 million cap space gives you a chance to replace three under 1 million contracts with 6-7 million contracts to build a contender.

Drop Tatar for Semin, drop Janik for Suter and drop Emmerton for some big physical forward. And there we go.

He probably meant send him back to Grand Rapids, not get rid of him.

That's actually a pretty good base to build upon but the D needs some serious top-end talent and a goal scorer in the top6.

Can't say I would feel very comfortable going into the season with a 22 player roster and only 24 k in space. Plus I'm not sure if Jones would be willing to take only 2.5 on the open market.

Yes, I ment that. Sometimes I wonder how difficultly people are thinkin.

WHAT I would try to do to improve the team:

Sign UFA Justin Schultz for 2.5 million caphit (is it a normal ELC if he signs or what? possible to add bonuses etc.)
Sign UFA Ryan Suter for 7.5 million
Sign UFA Alex Semin for 6 million
Sign UFA David Jones for 4 million

Trade Kyle Quincey + Cory Emmerton to STL for Chris Stewart. (Blues are looking left-handed defenceman, who can play power-play, this is really match for both teams, we need a big physical winger.)

Franzen - Zetterberg - Jones
Semin
- Datsyuk - Bertuzzi
Cleary - Filppula - Stewart
Miller - Helm - Eaves
(Nyquist, Mursak)

Suter - Kronwall
Ericsson - White
Smith - Schultz
(Kindl)

Howard
(MacDonald)

Drop Cleary to the 4th line, put Nyquist on the 3rd, sign konopka and see if helm excels on wing?

One thing that I'd like to see, but doubt will happen, is that if there is indeed a grace period for buying out contracts that Bert should be bought out. As much as I liked him and thought he earned the extension, his roster spot should have been freed up after this season. Oh well...

Cleary would be the one bought out, I'm guessing. NO WAY does Holland buy Bert out a few months after extending him.

Trade a pick for Zuccarello and sign him.

Then sign Suter and Parise.

Then sign another depth defenseman or trade for one.

Then trade for Rick Nash!

You forgot to mention the Wings offer sheeting Shea Weber.
