Hellz yes. They are both very, very good and as I said in another thread next year is a transition year. The chemistry needs to get sorted out plus we add Nyquist to the mix as well. Then the following year we add Jurco and Jarnkrok and we're back on top.
2013 top 9 forwards
2013 top 4 d-men
You can build around that however you like. Mule gets slotted down to the third line and fills the Mikael Samuelsson memorial "tweener" position. Jarnkrok and Jurco can be switched if necessary.
This is a young man's game, I think Ken Holland is now in a position where he's got to figure out exactly what type of talent he's got in his prospect pool. Oh and the best chance you have at Schultz is you put him in your top 4 and give him 20+ minutes including power play time.
Well I agree a Weber and Suter pairing in the Winged Wheel would totally pwn, I just don't see how we get both without giving up a ton of assets. That's the beauty of going after Suter, Parise and Schultz: all it costs you is cap space. Weber will be a target if we cannot get Suter IMO.
Is Schultz really that good? You guys make it sound like he would step in and control the game? Call me skeptical but I think anyone is going to face significant transition time.
A brief synopsis...
-Compared to Drew Doughty
-Called best d-man in NA not currently in the NHL
-Two time Hobey Baker finalist for best player in NCAA
-Two time all america
-Two time d-man of the year in his conference
He's legit. Plus he's a UFA so he can sign with any team, it's entirely his call. With Lids retired, Stu moving on, and hopefully Quincey and Kindl not being in our long term plans, we can offer him plenty of IT. We couldn't bury him in the AHL if Ken Holland wanted to which I think is no longer an option. Both Schultz and Smith will get 20+ minutes in Detroit next year. That's why I'm optimistic we can make a strong offer to him that he might find appealing.
I really like your top 9 right there...but that would also mean parting with some other players which I would be fine with.
I feel really confident about our prospect pool of forwards. I like the potential on defense but the only guy who is a can't miss right now is Smith. The other guys all ooze potential and hey so did Jakub Kindl at one point. If we can add a guy like Parise that would guarantee Pav' line would pwn. As far as I'm concerned Holland can trade Mule before he completely loses all value and I'd be thrilled to have Jurco replace him eventually. I am skeptical on Sheahan based on his collegiate career so I'll pay close attention to what he does in the AHL.
This lineup would completely flip where we are right now, ie about 12 bottom 6 guys and 3 legit top 6 guys. Shore up the D this offseason and in 2013 we are ready to dominate.
