Toronto - Winnipeg

To Toronto: Mark Stuart

To Winnipeg: Mike Komisarek & 2013 3rd round pick

Thoughts?

From a Maple Leafs perspective I like it. We free up cap space, get a better overall defenceman and he also has leadership qualities so he can hopefully help address which came into question this past season.

so you get the better player and capspace and the Jets get what exactly? a third round pick. Big pass for the Jets...

Komisarek has less than no value, and the Jets probably wouldn't trade Stuart for Toronto's second round pick, never mind the third. Just awful.

Not even close.

Stuart wouldn't even be available with his age and contract and what he brings to Winnipeg. He is the perfect role model for what true north is building the team around it would be massive overpayment to draw him away at this point in time.

No thanks from the Jets. You'd have to do better to get Stuart.

So let's not even consider the other team. They should be happy Toronto is even talking to them!

No ****. Really? You like a totally one-sided trade in favour of the Leafs from a Leafs perspective? Who'da thunk it...

Do a little research and check out that NTC that Komisarek has. I'm a Leafs fan too and want to move Komi but I cant see Winnipeg being on that list of 10 teams Komi would accept a trade to. No offence to the city of Winnipeg or its fans. Got a good young team. I just dont think WPG would be attractive for Komi to waive it.

LOL Because that's the problem with the deal. No offense to the city of Toronto or its fans but I'm starting to think the pollution is getting to your heads.

Moderator's NoteWhen you post a trade proposal, you're putting it up for discussion, and when a lot of people don't like it (or worse), you'll have to live with that. It does not give you the right to generally flame anyone. If you don't like that, don't post trade proposals. Pretty basic stuff.

prolongued suffering from missing the playoffs so many years has made them delusional

But seriously, Winnipeg should be honoured Toronto has blessed them with their presence and graciously bend over while lubing their collective anus with Burke standing right behind.

Komisarek + 2nd

for

Stuart

seems more fair/reasonable... though not sure WPG do it as Stuart is a good 4/5 with a cheap contract and solid veteran leader.

But Toronto would have to add.

I think Leafs are better off just holding on to Komisarek for 1 more year than deal him when cap hit is larger than dollars paid... more attractive that way.

I can assure you Winnipeg would not do it. There would be riots in the streets.

We would require huge overpayment for Stuart as we have zero interest in moving him and nobody of his role to replace him in the pipeline. I don't see us moving him for anything realistic.

ETA: Basically what you're proposing is that in return for us losing the heart of our defensive corps to take on an older, twice as expensive and worse D-man, we get... a second round pick which has what, about a 30% chance of becoming an NHL regular? There is nothing about this proposal that's workable.

I was under the impression that Stuart was a solid NHLer, and Komisarek was an overpaid defenseman that nobody wanted.

My other thought is: how many proposals on this board even remotely think about the needs of the other team?

That is already the case. Komisarek's cap hit is $4.5 million, but his actual salary is $3.5 million for the two remaining years on his contract.

To the OP, if Komisark is traded, it would likely be to a team looking to meet the cap floor (not Winnipeg), take a chance with a reclamation project of sorts, and for virtually nothing in return. Forget Stuart, think Komisarek + 3rd for an ECHLer. Komisarek would be purely a salary dump. If the Leafs need to add any more, they'd be better holding on to him, given that our 2nd rounder is looking like it is going to be 34th overall.

Nope.

Leafs give up the 2 most valuable pieces in the deal.

Is this assuming Komasarek has value? Because he doesn't.

If anything, he has negative value. No way the Jets give up a good defenseman for an average defenseman on a terrible contract, with the only compensation being a third round pick.

If leafs fans are so eager to get rid of Komisarek, why not suggest shipping him back to Montreal for Kaberle? Sure, they both suck, but it might be worth it to see if they can rekindle their old magic in familiar waters. Plus, they both have similar contracts (2yrs, about 4m each, I think), and because of those contracts, no other teams will touch them. So, why not?
