$70.3 Million for 2012-13

Quote:
Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Keeping in mind there's a new CBA coming (hopefully), upper limit of salary cap for next season (technically speaking) is $70.3M.

Further to @TSNBobMckenzie tweet, that would make the #NHL salary cap floor $54.3m. Started at $23m in 2005.
Wow! Let's see what Bowman has in him this summer.

This makes dumping a guy like Frolik much easier. Teams are going to have to hit a pretty expensive floor.

That would be if the CBA wasn't expiring, which it is. It's very unlikely to be that high for the 2012-13 season:

In other words, IF the CBA weren't expiring, next season's salary cap based on Hockey Related Revenue would be 70.3M. But the CBA is expiring.

Didn't see that Tweet. However, Paul Holmgren said to expect it to be around $69 million.

Yes, but they can't really say what the salary cap will be until they actually have a CBA in place for the 2012-13 season, which they don't yet.

Didn't a GM say not long ago that he expected it to be around where it is now?

I guess we won't know. I like hearing higher numbers. Let's just hope everyone doesn't go to Detroit.

Do we know for sure if salaries will not roll back if the cap does indeed come down in the new CBA?

Thread title is ultra misleading. We won't know an actual cap for months.

Summer cap will be around $77M, but that obviously doesn't mean a thing in regards to next season's actual number.

No. Rollbacks would be something that'd be negotiated in the new CBA. It's a big wait and see game right now...

I read that the players get 57% of revenue right now. If they stay at that with the next CBA then it will be 70.3mil. If it goes as low as 50%, then the cap will be nearly the same as this year.

I cant find the tweet, but I believe it was James Mirtle of the globe and mail in TO.

The owners are supposedly trying to lower the players' share of revenues, so it almost assuredly won't be at 70.3M come September.

I've heard Rocky's name mentioned as being one such owner. According to him, the Hawks are still losing money. I think Friedman's article quoted him saying the current CBA forces "a challenging business model."

Personally, I think player share is definitely going to go down. i'm thinking somewhere between 51-54%

Nothing personal, but if I read one more person say that the Blackhawks are losing money I'm putting my fist through my computer. There isn't a freaking chance.

If no agreement is reached they may play under the current terms if the owners do not lock players out.

They are not even negotiating until after the playoffs are done. Should be interesting.

Where is the link on this? Last I heard no terms or direction have been discussed by either side.

The Blackhawks may be losing money but Rocky Wirtz most definitely is not.

Nothing official, but it's popularly supported speculation in the media.

If Emery is our #1 G, that team still does not win a Cup...oh and Carcillo should be on the 4th line
