Would there be anything from the Blues that you would want for Craig Smith? Smith being the main part from Nashville.

Edit: Gaustad wants $3M??? Why does he think he deserves that?

Probably not, we don't really need to move him.

Smith was wooed to skip his senior season last year and come to the Preds, he proceeded to produce right out of the gate and is of course on a very friendly ELC.

For an offensively challenged team to trade Smith in division... what you would have to give up, would be a big overpayment. It was going to take Rick Nash for Columbus to get Colin Wilson and the Blue don't have anything close to that to offer for Smith and frankly it wouldn't make sense for them to do that since they aren't in perpetual rebuild like the Jackets.

Fair enough. I appreciate the direct and genuine responses. Better than other team's responses about player availability.

Because he's unrestricted and unrestricted guys get ridiculous contracts. Darcy Regier gave him $2.3M, so I wouldn't be the least bit shocked to see someone pay him $3M, which is way more than he's really worth.

I would think the only deal that makes sense is smith in a package for backes or oshie one for one.

Maybe he is taking 7 extra years that Sutes turned down?????? #35 seems to be the only one wanting to remain a PREDATOR.

LeBrun mentions this in his latest blog:

Quote:
Two goalies I believe are on the radar for the Toronto Maple Leafs in their quest to upgrade their goaltending are veteran UFA-to-be Tomas Vokoun and young Nashville backup Anders Lindback (RFA on July 1).
Also mentions the Suter to Detroit stuff.

I just wonder what Nashville would get from TOR? 2nd for Lindback? the 1st for Lindback and Wilson?

Then I have to ask, who to sign for the back-up? Vokoun?

If Suter leaves, something around Schenn and Lindback.

If Voky will come, perfect. If not, call-up Smith. If we don't think Smith is ready: Emery, Nittymaki, etc.

The other option is to go the Lindback route. Have our unproven massive scandanavian prospect play well enough at camp to be the backup. That would be Hellburg. there is precedent for our team to do this.

yeah we burn his cheap years, but for his development, work with mitch korn and pekka every day and learn from the best or be the backup in milwaukee?

Is Hellberg ready for that? I figured he needed a few years...love it if he proved me wrong.

I don't know. We didn't know Lindback was ready. It is purley speculation on my part, but I think there is at least a chance. But that is up to his play/maturity level come camp time.

My armchair GM opinion has Lindy being traded for a 2nd and us signing a stop gap on a 1-2 year contract for backup. I understand we may have gotten lucky with Rinne and injuries, but Lindback only started in 13 games I believe. What's the point of rushing a prospect up for that?

we had no reason to rush Lindback. Deckanich or MacIntyre (I think) were the frontrunners and Lindback took the job. I just threw it out as a possibility if we move Lindback

I didn't mean rushing Lindback, I just mean Smith or whoever into the future. It doesn't appear anyone is ready yet and it really makes no sense to have a prospect who needs as much ice time as possible playing 15 games in a season.

I say the Preds trade him but not in a hurry. I think it depends on the what is offered.

Either way, the Preds are going to get a lot for the 207th pick

Lindbäck came over after being the regular starter for a playoff team, while Hellberg was a backup this year. His numbers aren't great. I think he needs another year of seasoning before we bring him over.

If all we're trading Anders for is a draft pick, then we should just hang on to him. Don't deal him unless it fills a need for us, because he's a very useful backup to Pekka.

Why include Wilson in this? I still consider him "off limits." He's going to be a star in the league ...

Wasn't Vokoun just reported as signing with Lokomotiv as the team starts over?

The only thing from Rinne that I saw on the day he was rumored to be making a big announcement was some interview with Pete Weber where he discussed his history with EA Sports NHL games...

THIS JUST IN!! HOCKEY PLAYER PLAYED VIDEO GAME BEFORE HE WAS FAMOUS!!

It was reported, but never confirmed. His agent did confirm that he was in discussions with a KHL team, but last week came out and said that KHL negotiations had not worked out and that Vokoun was solely focused on playing in the NHL next season.

Vokoun complained publicly about playing time in Washington this year. How do you think he would react to getting 15-20 starts behind Pekka?

I know it's a nice, sentimental thought, but it's not a good idea and it's not going to happen.

Just curious, but wondering hypothetically, if Suter left, would Nashville be interested in regaining their 1st round pick from Buffalo, along with Jordan Leopold, in exchange for David Legwand? Am I close at all?
