Now don't wanna get flamed but Toronto and Van have been in talks, and it's probably only for Luongo but let's just say Kesler is unhappy and wants to leave(Toronto needs that #1 center). Luongo is for sure on his way out.

I don't want to trade Gardiner but he'd be needed to be in this package for it to work. I like Edler and it seems some Van fans want him gone.

Once again this is pretty unrealistic just trying to see if it works. Van fans would you be happier do it if Schultz wanted to sign in Van but to seal the deal would be having Gardiner there to make a pairing.

horrible for vancouver the only way you would get 3 great players your going to have to add kessel, your getting our 3 best players and your giving us prospects the only way this deal works is if you give us kessel and you take out Luke Schenn and Tyler Bozak you can keep them

To Toronto

Ryan Kesler
Roberto Luongo
Alex Edler

To Vancouver

Jake Gardiner
Phil Kessel
1st(5th overall)

It has been suggested that Vancouver's first round pick is upset on how it has been treated and talked about by Gillis and has asked to be traded. Because it is such a late round pick at #26 combined with having asked to be traded, most HF fans feel Gillis will be lucky to get anything more than a third or fouth round pick in return.

Vancouver isn't rebuilding, this makes no sense for them, apart from the skewed value.
And who wants Edler gone? 49 points as a defenseman is huge! Every nucks fan would hate to part with him unless Shea Weber is involved.
Tell me how many cups Vancouver has won.....come on....im waiting...seriously......oooh yeah.

Vancouver joined the league in 1970, how many cups has Toronto won since then?

Fully agree. Need Kulemin, Schenn, the Leafs 1st this year, a Brian Burke voodoo doll and Damien Cox's severed head going our way to even up the value.

Wouldn't even think about doing it from a Leafs perspective.

Now that Hodgson is gone, Vancouver can't afford to trade Kesler, so they don't even think about it either.

If we get Gardiner, does that mean we automatically get Schultz with him because you know hockey players only play with their BFFs

I thought you get him anyway, don't you? Because you know hockey players only play in their home province.

No why would Toronto want a #1 centre, elite defenseman and a #1 goalie?
Just pull a Calgary and make no adjustments and end every year outside of the playoffs.

Tell me the last time a team has traded a #1 Center, #1 Defenseman, and #1 Goalie, in the same calendar year, nevermind the SAME trade.

Kesler is an upgrade on every center we have right now, but I'm not sure he can be that long-term solution to the #1 center position. I think he is a 1B or a 2A, and he came off of a down year. We have an opportunity to draft a true #1 center ourselves with the proposed 5th overall pick, and have him under our control for the next 7-9+ years.

Edler is a great defenceman. I think Gardiner can be better, and comes at a much cheaper price for longer. This would also leave us with Edler and Phaneuf on the first pairing, and I am not sure that they would be a good mix. We are also trying to move out defencemen. Taking on more doesn't really help. Not to mention this could cost us our edge in the Shultz sweepstakes.

Roberto Luongo is a good goalie. Now. When he is 43, probably not so much. We also have a bunch of goaltending prospects, and we could end up in the same situation that Vancouver is in now, trying to get rid of him even before he has emptied his tank, only his value would have dropped lower than it already has. I don't particularly want to take on that monster of a contract. I especially don't want to pay a lot for it, especially for a goalie that is being traded because his own team doesn't think he has what it takes to lead them to the Stanley Cup, as silly a notion as that may be.

I also don't see the point in selling low(est) on a 22-year old former 5th overall Schenn, who could turn out to be a completely dominating defenceman. And while I feel like Bozak was put as a throw in here, he is more than that. He is a good center (though preferably not 1st), and has great chemistry (and friendship) with our best player. Bozak put up points at the same pace as Kesler this year. Think about that.

Not to mention the cap disaster this trade would be.

This trade doesn't help Toronto, as much as Vancouver fanboys can't believe.

Just thought I'd put an idea out there. Why do you expect that the 5th overall will turn out better than Ryan Strome or Nino Niedereiter or Luke Schenn for that matter? I'm not saying he won't, but history shows it's not a gaurantee. Even Brayden Schenn, while he had a great playoffs, only scored around 20 points this year; I'm saying that he is much better than those other guys I mentioned (or looks to be at this point), but even he is a long way away from #1C, and I think it's extremely unlikely to expect him to get there. Which isn't bad, because I don't think he should be expected to become that - he was only a 5th overall pick. They are no gaurantee.

Here's a counter offer.

To VAN - Kessel, Gardiner, Lupul

To TOR - Tanev, 1st, Schroeder, Raymond.

This is just as terrible as yours.

That's as fair as it's gonna get.

Tanev is one of the better defensive prospects in the game. Shutdown defenseman and a premier number goalie to get you into the playoffs.
? If not you just made a proposal worst than the OP's.
