Why would Ottawa do this?

Who will be the #1 center?? Turris and his career high 29 points??

Why would we deal our best player for an average defenseman?? We could have kept Brian Lee and keep Spezza.

Awful trade

Spezza is a bonafide #1 Centreman in the league and they are very hard to come by. Schenn had a rough year, and that's putting it mildly. Maybe under a new coach he'll come around and then again maybe he won't.

A 5th round pick is very nice, but it's still a gamble. There's no telling if he'll pan out or not.

I'll keep Spezza, thanks.

I think its the 5th overall pick, not a 5th rounder.

As to the OP, no thanks from Ottawa. Schenn is underacheiving, and there is no guarantee that the 5th overall even makes the NHL, and almost zero chance that he develops into anything remotely resembling Spezza. If Spezza was several years older, maybe I do this, but not when he's 28/29, and certainly not to our most hated rival. Not close to the kind of overpayment it would take (but realistically, Spezza will never be traded to Toronto).

I haven't missed these posts of yours, CC.

Ottawa just can't risk it.

They can't lose something that they so desperately need and HOPE that someone else pans out.

Also I'd be scared ****less of a Lupul/Spezza/Kessel line.

Not a chance in hell from Ottawa's perspective. You don't trade a #1 centre then spend the next 5+ years looking for one.

We've all seen what teams without a true #1 center look like... they look like a team that misses the playoffs every year. Why on Earth would the Sens want to trade places with their most hated rival?

**** no from the Sens.

Leafs would do this in a heartbeat in my opinion. Ottawa says no way and doesn't even have to think about it.

As a Leafs fan I do this in a heartbeat

Sens don't touch it, and rightfully so.

This.

Leafs need a #1 centre desperately enough.

Not only would Ottawa not want to draft someone like Galchenyuk at 5th overall, I don't think they need Schenn all that badly either. There are enough guys that fill his role more consistently on the free agent market.

It would easily be one of if not the top line in the league haha. I hate Spezza because he is a Sen, but if he was on the leafs he would probably be my favourite player

Doesnt even come close for Ottawa. I'd rather give Michalek away for free than receive Schenn and the 5th ov for Spezza.

Hell no from Ottawa. I'm sorry, but Schenn is just terrible...

Schenn isn't terrible. I still think there's a good chance he becomes a #3 d-man, but I think the reasons mentioned before indicate why the trade wouldn't happen.
