That save alone shows the skills that Marleau has: speed, skill, defense responsibility. It's pretty amazing

And yeah, I though that was only in ELCs too, but I guess we're both wrong.
Those are payment bonus's, and yes, those are only part of ELC's. It is totally possible that Marleau has just about anything in his clause that opens a window, assuming he agreed to it. That is my understanding anyway. He could literally have a clause that says if he loses the team hot dog eating contest, his clause is null and void, assuming he agreed to it.

I think it's likely he has some kind of performance clause, likely 'make the playoffs', but it could even be point based, or round based, but it's unlikely. I don't want him traded anyway, I'm just saying he technically could.

Wow he must have been sweating bullets when Wellwood was on the team.

What a tough one. Marleau is a flawed player no question but he is also an excellent player. It will be hard to replace what he brings, let alone on a regular, passionate basis -- those kinds of players don't get moved.

All signs point to keeping Patty and the core and just riding it out. There's a good chance we end up on the losing end of any "move to make a move" and really, that was part of the problem last season.

We need to keep in mind the team had a major shakeup entering last season. That did not fully shake out last season, but I'd say there's a good chance it gels much better this season.
